Needle or brush

In the week that I've been at this I realize something.... I need a smaller set up.

I'm currently using an Iwata eclipse (something or another) with a .05 needle/tip.

They make a .35 (I think) for this brush. Should I just get those parts or should I invest in a whole new machine?

Check first with Iwata to be sure that the parts alone will fit your current model, if they do, you probably need the needle, the nozzle and the nozzle cap, I have cheap Chinese airbrush that is built the same and the parts are the same, but as I said check first, there is no point in buying a new airbrush if you don't need to.

Is your airbrush bottom feed or gravity Feed?
Mainly this will help tell which nozzle set up you currently have.

The bottom feed comes with a .5 set up the Gravity feed with the .35
They will interchange but was just thinking if you already have the smaller of the two than just need more practice on fine line control .
Or maybe look into buying a Krome by Badger , It comes with the ultra fine set up in it .2 and also includes the fine set up .3

If you have a Hobby Lobby in your area they carry both the .5 and the .35 nozzle /Needle and you will need to buy the crown cap for the nozzle size you do not have.
I do have the .5 set for my Eclipse CS but I have only put it in a few time on big paintings to blow in background.
 
you should get you a micron,,, seriously... i mean really...seriously...lol.. get a micron....i gave blood to get mine.
 
It's a siphon feed with .5 There is a store here that carries the .35 setup. I think I'll give that a try. I really want a gravity feed. But since I do huge murals my boyfriend bought the set up best for that.

If you plan on doing other finer stuff as well as your murals, a second finer brush is definitely not a bad option if you can afford it.

He did pick right because you are doing large surfaces , The .35 should handle anything you have on that large of scale.
Badger also makes a 360 you can use it as a bottom feed , side feed or gravity feed..
If the local store is a Hobby Lobby make sure to print off the 40% off coupon and save yourself some Money..:D
 
If there is an AC moore around! you might find a badger 360 on clearance. They can be set up anywhere from .3-.7 depending which parts are in it.

Ok, so I want a gravity feed for my fine line stuff. Lets say I get something other than an Iwata... Do I need a different airhose attachment?
 
I know badger makes an adapter so you can use your Iwata airhose on the Badger.
I am not sure about the other airbrush makers on hose fitting size But I know being Jeff has a lot of different makes I am sure he can tell you.

Hi MJ, if I were you I'd stick with the Iwata airbrushes because you already have a BCS Eclipse. It'll make getting spare parts simpler, you'll be able to swap them around if you want to and basically you will be used to the feel of the Iwata airbrushes.

You could get an HP-CS 0.35mm gravity feed Eclipse but you can also look at the HP-SBS 0.35 which is the side feed Eclipse and is very versatile because you can put on different sized cups and bottles to suit the size of the painting your doing. I think this will be very useful for your murals. You can put the cups/bottles on either side of the airbrush and you can tilt them so you don't spill paint, you could turn the cup around so you can even paint on ceilings or floors and not spill paint. This could be very useful to you if you have to paint Murals in awkward corners and such.

Check out my YouTube video on my Iwata side feeds, I have an HP-SB+ 0.2mm (I don't recommend this one for what you want) and the Eclipse HP-SBS 0.35mm which I think would be great for you. In the video I show the airbrushes but also all the different cups and bottles you can use, the plastic cups are very cheap and very light. I use the little plastic siphon feed cups the most because you can take the cups off with paint still in them and the paint will keep for a few weeks if you put the lid on and cover the openings.

In this picture you can see paint in the cups and I use a bit of Knead Eraser or Blu Tack for the top hole and a broken toothpick for other.

Hey Mel,
Where did you get the adaptor that is sticking out the side of your SB ? Is that an Aztec cup with the screw near the feed tube? The reason I ask is that I thought I read that the Aztec cups fit the SB .

Hi Peeling,
If you watch my video on my Iwata side feeds I show different cups and bottles (after about 5 minutes or so) including the set in the photo and Aztec cups which are not in the photo. Click the link under the photo in my post above and all should become clear :) I hope :) :)

Someone else on the forum may know where to get them from in the US. The Aztek cups just fit straight on and don't need an adapter.
