Shadow's Log Stardate: 9.26.2013

Just need to work it more to give more depth and roundness. Some of the lines are too dark for the little shadow near them. Also, just learned from the pro's, do not fully outline your teeth and gums. Subtle shading goes a long way. It will make it look more correct.

Yeah, Wayne I was so eager to paint again and had little time so it was just a rush to get it done and thanks for the tips I am hoping to have more time here soon to get back in the swing again.

Time is always hard to find, makes improving hard, every little bit helps though.

Nice one shadow, agree with Wayne mate on detailing the shadows and fades in a bit more but great that you picked up the brush again bud!
It is strange when you first pick it up again after a break and can take some time getting back in the zone after a short break, but the important thing is you did!. I always just have a practice piece to mess around and more importantly to make shore the kit is all working correctly, and sometimes the practice piece turns in to a real corker of a job!
What to paint can also be a stumbling block sometimes, so I always tend to try and have a list of stuff I want to paint, sometimes that may even be an old ABTutor tutorial or putting different paints I have down and seeing how they look together, like my paint chart, only really works with Trans but it's fun just paint a band horizontal in one colour then different colours vertically to see how the blend?
Anyway keep at it matey and you can only get better:)

Thanks Kev, there would have to be something really life altering for me to quit, even though I don't have the natural artistic ability I am learning how ever slowly..lol With all its mistakes and incompleteness I do think it has a bit more depth than most of my previous pics but that's why they call it "learning" hell at my age life slows down...or is it going faster and i'm just slower lol

So, it has been two weeks since I posted to this..... it has been crazy here I'm in the middle of a major renovation project and my son started bringing me his bike parts to work on so I am sanding, repairing, and prepping them for paint. I have not been able to paint anything for the forum as of yet and it feels like forever but what I am afraid of is when I do get back to it will seem like day one. :fatigue:

Update: Haven't been able to paint any art due to construction doing at home, some physical issues, and started working on my son's Ninja. I have the upper fairing and he is bringing the rest soon. I removed headlight, turn signals, and shield then started some preliminary sanding, having to go a little deeper than initially thought due to runs, sags, pits, and damage to fiberglass. Will post pics as progress, and also a friend dropped off his old fire helmet to have paint it, got a bicycle helmet to paint to boot so at least I will be busy.20140403_143539.jpg20140403_143605.jpg

OK, update.... I know I haven't painted anything in a while but after some indoor renovation, the wife found a outdoor project for me to do...LOL go figure. Well for the last three weeks here is what I have been doing, (hand dug paver walkway, new porch, and all new railing, and 2000 lbs. of 2A modified stone not in the pic due to wife's Jeep). So now that I am finished I told the wife no more projects this season I need time to paint and have some "me time"! 20140516_132244.jpg

Thanks Cheryl, If it were not for my disability I could have probably finished in two weeks but it feels like it took a month.. :( now to get to work on PP4!

Wow, it has been longer than I thought since I posted here so going to try to update a bit. To be honest, the only thing I have done paint wise has been my PP4 piece. I have been struggling with some life issues and had to re-prioritize things a bit and now trying to get back in the groove. I still have the desire and the drive I just seemed to get off track a bit plus my brushes don't seem to be performing like they did when new. I do take the time to clean them well when finished but im thinking I may need to get a bit of restorer and let them take a swim. I replaced my cracked nozzle but still not where I feel they both should be thus losing a bit of confidence or gun shy. (pardon the pun) lol Anyway, I'm scouting my reference for the next victim....... errr painting!

I'm the same shadow, I neglected my log for a while, and have had to kick myself up the but, and get back on track to keep the goals I set myself. Got my next piece all drawn up, and hopefully get started tomorrow. :)

Just a thought, when you replaced your nozzle did you also replace your needle. It's probably not always necessary, but I know that needles and nozzles kind of wear with each other, and so sometimes when you replace one and not the other, they aren't as perfect a match as they could be. If the restorer doesn't do the trick, might be worth a shot maybe.

Yes Miss Squishy, I replaced both the needle and nozzle as a set.... I learned from the beginning ( the hard way) that they seem to work better as a pair if received as such but the only question would ponder is nozzles and needles are sold separately not as a set(at least for my Velocity's) and would not fall to that issue in my mind anyway. lol I just think my old eyes cant see as good as they used to, once to my naked eye (insert joke here) I swore my needle was clean but under magnification there was a teeny tiny speck and is enough to mess them up. :(

Glad you seem to have winkled out the problem anyway :) Hope it's flows silky smooth for ya, did you find something cool to paint?

No not yet, I was skulking around the web today looking for that light bulb to pop but didn't happen.....hopefully soon!

I see this needs updated so lets see, well I painted the trout for PP4, then I painted the lawn tractor for a sportsmen club, all while slowly working on my son's ninja, and I have decided on the piece to be painted on my tailgate so will be starting that hopefully in a few days. I probably wont have a SBS or a how to but will at least try to show progressions as I go.

WOW haven't been in this section for about 3 months..... well I can say I have been painting, I did my PP5, and still working on my son's motorcycle. I have stepped up the pace to get it finished because I wanted to get my truck tailgate finished by spring but I don't see me getting it done that soon. :( My tailgate requires a lot of work (for me) because it entails 3 different pieces of art and again for me a lot of work... to date it will be the largest piece I have ever done and at this rate i'll be lucky to get it done by end of summer. I don't want to post any pics yet of the layout because one of the scenes is my own creation, one is from a reference on the net , and the third is a conglomeration of my design and of references.

Shadow, it's always you that makes me realise, I haven't posted to my log for ages. Mind you if I got my butt in gear and did something worth talking about it would help LOL.
