On the Giger piece I did I used some real soft steel wool . I am working on another piece for my eldest that has some texture so I decided to try something different with the steel wool .
I took an old ink pen and removed the ink cartridge from it and inserted the steel wool rolled up to fit snug in the shaft opening. 101_0447.JPG
Then put it all together

Then put it to use to see if it would produce the effect I was looking for
101_0449.JPG as shown here in the cape and hat ribbon. It does some really fine micro scratching .
Just thought I would share this in case someone else might find it useful.

Thank you Herb for the cool trick! I'll have the same in my arsenal!
By the way I looked at steel wool today just a couple of hours ago and thought how to use it at our field. And here's the response of the Universe:)

This is the super soft steel wool , It is labeled on the package as angel hair spin steel wool and is super soft.
The pen ideal came to me for getting tighter control of the scratching.

Nice tip herb, im working on a pic at the min and have been using sand paper to get some small hairs in but this could be an even better option. [emoji106][emoji106]

Oh I forgot to say this was all done in Golden high flow Paynes gray , straight monotone no chaser LOL

Super cool piece!!! And awesome job!! Ima gonna have to try that!!
Thanks and I mainly came up with the ideal due to this is also on 5 X7 poster board stock and I learned on the Giger piece that my big finger and that tiny piece of steel wool do not always hit the target . now with the modified pen it works great and I can see where I am hitting on the painting .
