MITCH Backs the OLYMPOS AirBrushes

I'm glad I came across this.I found Franks website the other day, and was thrilled to see someone selling them in the US. I've been wondering if the quality has held over to the new owners. I have an HP100- C, HP100-B, and my MP-200-C. I have a pile of airbrushes, but those old Olymposes, a pair of CM-SBs, and an old HP-CS are all I ever actually use.
The MP-200C is amazing, and still one of my favorites despite it being 20+ years old.
If the "new" Olympos are as good as the old ones, they're the deal of the century right now. I'm looking forward to hearing the reviews.

Yup, Steve the young tutorling... I've seen your work Steve...the only tutorling bit is the tutorling you give out... :) Look forward to seeing what you do with the brush. I have one on my wish list...

I could not get my MP-200-b to work properly even with etac efx, there does seem to be a slight issue with the needle which I need to address, I have not dropped it or messed with it so thats how it came. I know its not the paint as i used the same mixture in 2 other airbrushes without any issues one being a 0.12 so the 0.18 nozzle size of the 200b was not the issue which is what i thought it was. When I get it sorted i will try again.

The needles are VERY fragile. I've not replaced a needle on any of my guns in 5 years *touch wood* and I've damaged 2 Olympos needles in 3 months and that is just by spraying bits here and there.

Is it not possible to replace the needles with iwata or some other brand? if the needle is the main problem with these brushes I would imagine it would be worth while to pay a little more for a needle that is less fragile, or maybe even look into tempering the needles to make them stronger.

That was my next try. I am also going to try a needle from the cheap Chinese knock-offs.

Me neither apart from replacing my HP-b needle after bending it whilst polishing it, i think that the iwata .18 micron needles would work as do most of the parts so technically if i had a hunderd euro's spare i could get a k33 needle and drop it in. But i havent. So a standard needle it is. when i have some spare cash. I still dont understand how i can damage a needle just by spraying but it must have happened.

It would be cool if the Iwata micron needle fits, considering how expensive micron parts are I've never complained about the €25 it cost for the needle here in Holland, if it does fit, obviously the K33 will too;)

Mine is the HP so I'm not wasting a Micron in it. I'll try my other Iwata HP needle and the Chinese one but that is how much money I'm willing to put in the Olympos at this stage.

I've tried already. It works! The needle is from 0,2mm setup. But I've made the shape of the tip I need, though I do that for entirely all the needles, no matter what range AB is, micron or knock-off.
I have to say, that the needles I've used, have the quality not less than well known expensive brands. They had even kinda better surface in new untreated condition. After the treatment they all look the same. But as I've seen, not all chinese needles are the same. Good are from Fengda that are imported here. Haven't done any photos, I think you will trust me. Can only make a photos after my treatment. I'm sure I've got new Olympos and Iwata needles not treated yet (new).

That's disappointing to hear. The old Olympos nozzles and needles are flawless and very strong. Glad I still have a stash of the old stock...
Apparently the quality went when the old man retired... Hopefully the new owners get Olympos back on track.

It's not an issue for now;) http://www.merriartist.com/Parts_for_Iwata_Hi_Performance_Plus_s/748.htm

Andre, so you mean that HP-B nozzle are interchangeable with HP-100SB? How their performance differs?

The parts for the HP-Plus is not an issue, it's for the old HP that is the issue. Apparently they changed the thread on the Plus so the two nozzles are not the same. They even have different part numbers. Even the needles have different part numbers between the two models.

I tried the parts from an old plain HP. This new/replacement Olympos I was sent worked much better than the original untill I bend the needle. Replaced it and few hours later it was bent again. I did not try using just the HP needle with the Olympos nozzle.

So I say yes, the old HP parts does fit the Olympos 100 SB perfect and it works perfect. I painted for 2 hours doing hair and it did not miss a beat.

Grex XB nozzles and needles will fit an HP-100B. The needles are a bit softer than Iwata, but overall they make for good parts. Performance wise, I didn't notice any difference between the Grex or Iwata parts in the HP-100B. The old stock Olympos parts beat both, though, which makes sense.

No, Andre, the link is for old HP-B parts, it only looks like for HP+:) For HP+ there's another link at their shop.

So, I think if I need replacement for my Olymposes, I'll order the nozzles from old Iwata or Grex. Olympos original are higher in price.
