Question about Opaque Black

I found one more tip today! I figured I would post it here instead of making a new thread, because I seemed to have figured out how to hijack my own thread and get way off subject.

This unfortunately will only work if you are having a baby or know somebody else who is, the clips that hold the 4 pack of formula bottles they give you in the hospital turn out to be great for holding paint bottles! (Like I said in a previous post I will not throw something away that I can use, I am cheap).

Where at in Michigan? Sounds like the paint is junk. Have you tried contactinf createx? Even when I was paintin in my studio (the sun room brr), I never had a problem with the paint...and we lived in northern Michigan

I live in south east Michigan north of Detroit. I believe that bottle of paint went bad, although I am curious as to why the other colors that I have in the same line of createx which are also the same age are fine. I only warmed the paint because a tip that I got from a painter when I worked in a body shop, but since posting this thread I have been painting with the colder paint and have realized the paint flows the same and now I get less tip dry which is fantastic! I did not try contacting createx because I only use that line of paint for practicing or not important projects so I was not to concerned but more curious. I only use wicked/autoair (when I am using water based paint) for important projects.

I would call createx. Let them know what happend. They have EXCELLENT customer service!! I have a buddy that lives in that area. Detroit Bob! Paints a million hockeu masks. We just recently moved from northern MI

I will contact them, just to try and get a little more information on what happened. I love northern Mi, My goal is to move out of the city and move up there only problem is not to many jobs out that way.

A bit of advice to any newbies like me out there who may think of warming there paints up on a radiator.....dont. ha ha. I did this on a particularly cold day and was too impatient to wait for my workshop to heat up. A bottle of wicked yellow which was freezing cold. I left it on there too long and the pressure built up so much the bottom of it bubbled out, so now it wont stand upright which is a pain now if i dont shut the lid properly.
Also when i opened it it shot out and would not stop. I lost about a third of the bottle.
Some lessons are painful i suppose.
I normally bring my paints into the house to warm up an hour b4 i start......normally

Hah sounds like something I would do, I am impatient. Just out of curiosity was the paint affected by heating it up so much?

I dont think so it seems ok. I have used it but i have trouble getting paint to flow consistently anyway so i probobaly wouldnt notice if there is something wrong.
Im not experienced enough to spot any subtle differences.
I did have problems with createx black but got a set of illustration colours and i love the way that black flows and looks when sprayed.

Yeah I hear you there I consistently suck and getting my paint to flow consistently, sometimes it feels like I am fighting my equipment more than I am painting, but given enough time I usually get it worked out. There are alot of different factors that effect it,for instance sneezing to many times in the room I found out.

Blahahahaha..Sorry but thats funny, am surprised you didnt end up with a Yellow radiator....or did ya LOL

No a yellow bench, hands and floor. It nearly hit the ceiling of my workshop and thats 8 foot.ha ha
The stopper on the bottle cap actually held the pressure in........ till i flipped it!

Wicked does not like to be exposed to either extreme of temperature, and this likely may even have occurred before it reached you. I have had this happen with moss green - not the pressurising, but the graininess/gumming up, and have heard of it happening with opaque black too.

For anyone else reading always try and keep paint stored somewhere, out of direct sunlight, and away from he's sources etc. If you store outside in a garage, shed or similar and temps will drop below freezing, or rocket to scorching levels , its best to bring it inside.

I too would try and warm the space rather than the paint, but I have used Wicked in freezing conditions just fine. However as not two workspace conditions behave the same, and if you are having flow issues then you could try using the 4020 additive, which is for use in hot/cold weather

The opaque black I was using was not from the wicked line, it was from the regular airbrush color line. I have not had any issues with using wicked, which is why I switched to wicked a while ago. I have not gotten around to e-mailing createx about it, but I am planning on it for informational purposes only. The bottle of paint that was in question I have had for a couple of years, and it is over half empty so I would not expect them to replace it. I am just curious to what would make that color go bad but not the other colors that are the same age and kept in the same conditions. As for the 4020 I have used it on a few projects, but I use a home brew reducer that seems to work great (for me at least). I painted a backboard for a basketball net over a year ago (I used it as a test) to see if the reducer I used would degrade the paint or have any adverse effects, So far it has gone through a summer with a couple days being 100 degrees plus to a winter with temps dipping below 0 degrees with regular use. So far it is standing strong and looks just as bad as the day I painted it.
