Splatter

I just was practicing with the airbrush for the first time, doing lines, small circles ect and I get splatter that's what I call it like when a BB hits a window it gives it that spiral affect. What causes that?

Is it what we call spidering? If it is it's too much paint too fast, could be too much reduced paint, too close or all of the above. Try pulling back less or moving away more...

this is 'spidering' in which case do as Mark suggests.

This is 'splattering' can be caused deliberately, but normally its because the paint is to thick for the pressure you have, or if its just occasionaly then chances are you have a build up of paint on the needle and when you hit the air it blasts the paint off the needle, I give a quick blast on either my hand or on spare paper before doing the artwork... saves some headaches.
Once you have more experience then this issue will be less, it happens mainly because you shut the air off before stopping paint / to low a pressure for the paint

I'm having the same issue as well but also my paint will stop spraying and like a blast of water will come out. Ideas?

are you saying you are getting spidering as well ?

sounds like a blockage.
Paint to thick / paint not filtered/ wrong type of paint / pressure to low /damaged Nozzle or nozzle/ brush wasn't properly cleaned after last use.

Many causes, start with a good clean of the brush, remove nozzle, give it a soak it appropriate liquid for the paint you were using. if you are remove any seals that aren't solvent proof from the nozzle before soaking. use a long bristles hairy brush to poke inside the nozzle to dislodge any stubborn paint. A jewellers Loupe will help with seeing what is left behind.

start there and let us know how you go, we can take it one step at a time.

Yes I've cleaned it good and I do get tip dry which I understand happens. More curious here of the water looking liquid that will blast out on occasion.
US Art supply paint is what I'm using just because it came with my kit. Water based acrylic solid.

maybe the paint is separating in the cup, either backflush to mix or put on the lid and remember to block the hole in the lid and give it a good shake.

starting out will be frustrating. It makes many throw in the towel, but keep with it and you will get there.

Gonna rely on you to keep me motivated. TIA.
What makes my lines widen on right side when I am stoping paint flow? Technique?IMG_20170302_193525102-800x450.jpg

'The Motivator ' that's me :D .......actually its all of us.
I'll start by suggesting starting a new thread in 'beginners airbrush' section. titled something like 'guidance required' that way member will see you need a hand and jump in to help. When you do make sure you mention what brush/paint/PSI you are using.

but in the mean time i'll say yes. its mostly technique.
you may be moving further away from the paper toward the end of the line or inadvertently pulling the lever back a little further at the end of the line

getting 'muscle memory' takes time. getting the right muscle memory involves practise. both require patience.

if you haven't already then go to the airbrush tutor site and register there

https://www.airbrushtutor.com/customer-area/

you will then have access to the practise sheets, if you print them off you can then refine your technique. They consist of practising lines / blends / dots etc and well worth looking at. Airbrush tutor also hase a youtube channel, so check out his vids (they're also accessible on the airbrush tutor website)

Watching you tube it all looks so easy, how hard can it be right ?? !! yes, most of us have been there

It could also be the paint you are using. if its not designed for airbrush artwork then it will fairly thick, designed for larger nozzle airbrushes at high PSI. so its struggling to flow consistently out of the brush. without a little more info (see the first paragraph of this post) its hard to guide you in the right direction.

Like riding a bike , learning to drive or even learning to cook. there are no shortcuts. we need to learn the basics then the rest will fall into place.

Thank you for the pointers,I'm better at it now I've been experimenting on different thickness's of
paint and find it's better the thinner it is,thicker paint does come out but will stop at times then
come out again so I decided to stay with the thinner mix

Its a juggling act. If the paint is to thin and the pressure to high it will spider, if the paint is to thick and the pressure to low it blocks and splutters. It gets easier once you get it sussed out
