Need some help, 1st eye

So I have only had a AB for 3 days and was getting tired of the dot,line,blend exercises so I figured I would take a poke at the ever so infamous eye.
I watched the tutorial twice then went to work. I figured I would learn more going at it with no help from the tutorial and constantly going back and forth to see what I was doing right/wrong.

The one on the left was my 1st try, the one on the right was my 2nd attempt.
I was not finished with the right one but it was getting late and I ran out of paint in my brush so I called it a day.

Please any and ALL help,suggestions and critique of any time welcomed.

Try posting it as a thumb nail...and reduce the resolution

you double posted, so I've removed the 2nd one.

make sure you have the reference close by. trying to do it out of your head wont work.

nothing wrong with trying something other than dots and daggers...... but practising dots and daggers is also a good warm up before starting a project

Sorry about the double post I did not realize I did that.
Yes I had the reference close by.
I absolutely agree, everytime I grab the brush I do a few minutes of practice exercises, hopefully one day I can leave out the dots and lines and just do daggers and unsure what you call them but reverse daggers, maybe rat tails I think they are called.

it doesn't matter what you do in the warm up, as long as you warm up, we cant have you pulling a muscle now can we

It also helps to see how the paint is behaving, adjust as needed before comiting to the artwork. What reduction worked yesterday may not work today and need tweaking....

Yes I learned that the hard way. I mixed up a bottle luckily very small (10ml) of paint already reduced and with transparent base so I could just throw it in the brush without worry about mixing and just like you said what was good yesterday was not good today. There was a 20 degree difference in temperature from Saturday to today.

you'll learn what your baseline is, then just adjust as needed.
Friday here was 30c, by sunday it was 19c and pouring rain and wind

Yes today is the 3rd day and I absolutely can not draw either. Blueprints yes but actual drawing/sketching no way.

there we go, its easier to see a full image than a thumbnail....
great improvement between #1 and #2 .... just don't go too dark to soon, you can always make something darker if needed later.

Drawing (non technical) isn't a prerequisite to airbrushing, it just helps make the journey a little easier.
Like you, I can do tech drawings, art drawing no. I can draw a stick figure, that's about it,

Ha that is exactly how I am. A stick figure like my 9yr old nice drawn it. Luckily you can be horrible at drawing and "regular" art and still be good at airbrushing. Hopefully someday in the much distance future I will be able to hold my own.

As long as you are willing to learn, we are willing to help, Just stick your hand up when you get stuck, don't sit there and waste too much time trying to solve an issue. we've all been there. . .

Or you can be like me, and suck at both drawing AND airbrushing!

Although, I am pretty good at technical drawing and 3D modeling...

you only suck at airbrushing because you think you suck.... you've managed to get paint on paper so that's a win !

This is true... I am better than those who look at airbrushing and say "I could never do that!" I've learned many creative things in my life, and the first step is to suck. Then one day, you suddenly don't suck so bad anymore. It's just a process.
