Bought a new mystery airbrush!

Double Actioner
While doing my daily eBay search, I came across a Binks Raven in a wood case. Now to me, this wreaks of late 60's to mid 70's for when produced as wood cases didn't occur much after that point. Now after dicussing with DaveG about this one, some interesting facts have been remembered.

1) Binks did not manufacture airbrushes but rebranded other manufacturer's products.

2)the brush looks to be all over black powder coated but a later made Raven (1980's)also up for bid has much less black coating (just the back end)

3)the color cup does look to be Badger and also powder coated

4) the spray cap and entire front end of the brush looks like nothing like any Badger I have ever laid eyes on and DaveG is stumped too.

5) I remembered that in the 80's all Bink's ads were also paired with Thayer & Chandler in print ads in the hobby magazines

I have tried to upload pics from my phone but it just won't work so, here is a link and my purchase price! Any suggestions on the brush origins guys??

You can't see anything but a thumbnail of that pic since the listing is ended.
I got curious, for what it's worth i found out the all black one is a raven II
and seems to be most often paired with the chameleon system

All you have to do to view the auction images is left click the thumbnail image. You will then see the auction images, 3 in all. The air caps are not like any Badger I or DaveG have ever seen.

I think I've only ever seen a Wren, cant say I've heard of a Raven! Have you tried to resize your pics? I'd love to see it.

left clicking doesn't work for me. it might only do that for you, since you are the one who bought it. all it does for me is take me to a page saying the auction has ended.
I was just pointing that out though. I would be unlikely to be of any help on the aircap.

Maybe you can't figure this out? When you hit that page you double left click the image and it takes you to the completed auction -easy peasy. From there you can view the 3 images of the auction and click them to zoom in, clear enough? I just downloaded Tapatalk and can now load the images for those who can't navigate eBay. This is one of the most convoluted forums for photo posting via mobile device I have encountered, talk about infuriating!

Sorry but its been a long day and this getting images posted was really ticking me off. I hit the same link, signed out -and with a cleared cache and still got further then the image you posted. Can't figure out the why for discrepancy though. At least it's all sorted out courtesy of Tapatalk. Kinda odd that you can't access your own device on the forum without it though.

Oh i was actually wrong there too. sorry I think it's because i'm not logged into ebay at all. But you logged out too, Idk maybe a browser or operating system difference. In any case not everyone could see the auction pics is all i was saying.

Heres my best guess on that head. It looks like this 1950's paasche v with the knurling instead of the nut. although yours kind of appears to have the nut
And if i'm not mistaken is that a little wheel just forward of the trigger?
It all looks old paasche to me. Except the cup which looks badger.

This is all just looking at the pics of all these brushes of course

It definitely has the Badger look to it. Take it apart and show us the insides and bet we can tell ya

I can guarantee you she will be stripping for all to see sometime this week! I looked at everything I could find on Badger airbrushes as that head assembly did not come close to anything that they produced and really has me stumped. I spoke with a Badger rep Friday and have Ken's email and will be engaging him on this shortly. I does strike me odd that it appears the brush could be cobbled together from 2 different manufacturers. I even entertained the thought it could be a Thayer & Chandler but then, why the Badger color cup? The main reason I pulled the trigger for a measly $22US is that I wanted the 1/16th Oz color cup as these are as rare ass hen's teeth since Badger stopped making them. All to trick out my little Paasche V.

It does have some heavy resemblance to a 1980s TnC. I'm sure it will all unravel as soon as you physically have it to play with

I bought one of these also off ebay bavk in the day the were all over modeling mags, it has a r hole head system and can pull a nice fine line, im actually a huge fan of this brush

MikeK,

Everything I can find online about the brush says that it is a good detail brush. I do find it odd that in regards to features it really does have something from all the major players;

-head assembly looks to be Thayer &Chandler

-body looks like Badger

-trigger looks like Badger

-adjustment screw in front of the trigger screams Paasche

and to top it off is black powder coated like a SOTAR! What a mutt!! Better call the pound fast. Lol
