So what's the deal here or I am crazy

I for one am not happy with my H&S ultra at all..I rather prefer my 35 buck chinese AB than the h&s..
Haven't tried the iwata since out of my price range atleast till I improve my skills to justify the investment.

You would probably notice that your skills would improve quicker by purchasing an iwata, it makes a huge difference learning with a tool that you don't have fight with, an eclipse woukdnt cost you too much more than your ultra, even if it cost twice as much, the leg up it gave you would be well worth extra cost, as I understand it you travel a lot so you might well end up in a place where you could find an eclipse at a rock bottom price.

I'm sure that if you got the chance to try out an eclipse or any other iwata, within a few minutes you woukd likely be wondering how you managed all this time without it.

I have Eclipse bcs and eclipse sbs and I love them. I just put soft springs from foxy studio in them yesterday. They are very nice airbrushes for the money I payed for them. Still need to try cs.

Well that's wisdom right there:thumbsup:

With what you've got now you don't really need anything else, if you want better you only need to continue to climb the iwata ladder, if you love what you have now, you'll want to marry everything above it:)

Oh! I would probably put that down to my lack of experience. Everyone here seems to be quite happy with the h&s..When I first decided to take up this hobby, the h&s seemed like the only premium ab within my budget. It was my first ab which I bought for 80 GBP. I picked up a couple of 10 dollar chinese ones at the same time..For some reason I could never ever ever get fine lines from the H&S (like trying to make streaks of lightning) but getting those fine lines with the chinese abs were a breeze!! And I'm saying a breeze for a chap who was like two days into handling an ab.So i'm kinda leaning against the h&s.
I tried getting fine lines from it even after practicing for a few months and it still was a lot more work than the chinese ab.

I'm sure you are right Malky.Hope I get to use it some place before I commit to buying it..
From what I see here and other places, the iwatas seem to be the last word in the ab world!

Now I really need to tell my local store to give me something to try lol I wanna see my fine lines with H&S lol

I find if you put a longer stiffer spring it does help with the delay on the h&s, but you will have more resistances, pros and cons, atleast you have the chance to hold them. Most of us dont, so i think your pretty lucky and thats the biggest thing that would help you with this decision, they both get fine lines, iwata is easier for sure

What exactly are you not happy about? I'm curious about the differences between an Ultra and the higher end H&S models

Well, the h&s ultra does not have a removable needle protector.the protector and the nozzle are a single piece.so taking the ab close to the paper for drawing out fine lines is not possible.Having said that, I did not need to remove the needle protector on the chinese ab for making vety fine lines.

Interesting. I remember seeing a comparison video where the guy was able to put a different head on the Ultra, but he said the threads didn't feel like an exact match. I know the higher end models are all interchangeable. (I own an Infinity and an Evolution) I get very good fine line performance out of either one, even with the old style head on the Evo.
Having said that, everyone is different. I know people who have tried several brands of brushes before finding one they liked. My advice would be to try an Iwata or a Badger or something like that.

Oh yeah, what needle size is in your Ultra?

Paint and mixture with one gun is not the same with another. Even paint brands work differently between airbrush brands. The Ultra isn the bottom of the range for H&S. It should still be better than any Chinese copies.

Uhh!! No it doesn't...tried removing...can u send a picture please..Maybe im just a little scared to exert too much force.

I think you missed the joke there... no, don't go sawing up your airbrush. I think you can get a "fine line" aircap for not a whole lot of money?

I’ve found that the delay people experience on the H&S brushes is a combination of the trigger being seated properly and the needle chuck being all the way forward. I have the Evo AL Plus and the Infinity, neither have a trigger delay, though I have experienced it after maintenance from time to time. Once I realized I wasn’t assembling it right, it’s been smooth sailing. Honestly, I have a CMC + and it stays boxed up most times. (I haven’t painted in a while, so all of my brushes are boxed up at the moment.) I generally use my Eclipse SBS as my workhorse and the Evo AL for detail work.
