Squishy's log type thingy.

Queen Clown Slayer
October 2013 - Jumping on this bandwagon (Great idea Kev) in the hope that it will help me get my act together. (Slim hope is still hope right? Lol) I do make a few quid here and there, and would love to make more, but really I AB cos I love the challenge. I look at the work of my idols, many of whom are on this orange slice of interweb, who inspire me everyday, and I think, why can't I paint like that? Well the brutal and honest truth is I may never be able to paint like that, but I can certainly enjoy trying to get to be as good as I possibly can, and seeing where the whole thing takes me. So what's stopping me? Me!!! I dither, overthink, procrastinate, mess about, use paint bottles as a microphone and sing along to the radio, rock out some air guitar, (loser!) and occasionally produce some painting . In short, if I was getting a report for my efforts it would be "Easily distracted, must try harder" A big part of the problem (apart from lack of skill) is lack of confidence. When guys get all technical and start talking about colour theory, and arty processes, and the like, my brain glazes over. I spend a lot of time drawing out ideas and planning out how I might do it, but when it comes down to painting, I pretty much just wing it. I always think I'm not doing things right, and that I'm not making the most of my brush or getting enough detail. And using colour is pretty much guesswork that I make up as I go along. So if someone likes what I've done, I can't quite believe they're talking about me. Hopefully this loggy thingy will keep me on the straightish and narrowish. I say 'ish' cos at the end of the day I love ABing, and won't get too furrow browed and serious about it in case that changes, and I'm pretty fond of having a whinge, moan and swear too, so I'm sure I will fall of this bandwagon from time to time. But for now I shall place my hand over my heart and pledge the forum to :- 1) - Get my bum in gear, stop twatting about, and get on with it. Aim to produce a piece of art at least once a month. 2) - Have some self confidence. Stop worrying about how to get things done, is there anything wrong with going with the flow? So I don't get the tech stuff, I'll just find my own way, does it matter as long as you're happy with the end result? 3) Take progress pics and post step by steps in case they are helpful to others, and so give something back to the forum. 4) I always try (try being the operative word) to get some originality into my work, even if it's just adapting a ref, but my dream is to be able to produce original fantasy art, which is my true love, so I need to keep my eye on this prize, keep working toward it, and work on my own designs. 5) Always try to be better, but appreciate how far I've already come, and remember I do it for fun. DSCF2434 (1280x956).jpgDSCF2438 (1280x956).jpgDSCF2439 (1280x956).jpg I know I've already posted these, but I'm counting it as work for October, so there! Lol!!!!

Well as they say down your way...good on ya! lol but ummm why is it a bad thing for air guitar?? I do it all the time but when I get that urge I just strap on my Schecter C1 classic, crank up the Marshal amp and go nuts....well till mother nature reminds me I'm no spring chicken anymore lol

Air Guitar??? what is wrong with play a little wild stallions on air guitar:D
Squishy that eagle just rocks and seeing that and you saying you are not good enough just does not make sense .
But like you I do it cause I just love airbrushing. So you go girl and rock out while having fun..

Lol, air guitarists of the world unite!!! Nothing wrong with it at all, unless someone catches you doing it, and doesn't appreciate exactly how cool you really are LOL LOL LOL!

Good on ya lady Squishy!!
Welcome aboard, I hear exactly what you are saying mrs and that I why I started this whole m'larky! There is plenty of us in the same boat, if you have a regular day job too it feels as those hours you have worked in the day for the man have been stolen from you! So in the evening when all your chores are done, the thing you do next is sit down with a cuppa and tv on feet up....why not you deserve it, but it's damn hard to get out of that comfy seat in front of the google box, and time for another slice of cake:). Ok I'm not saying you are like that but I was and it didn't get me painting....I thought about it..a lot but that got diddly squat done.
So here we are with this log thing and you will be surprised that by setting yourself a little achievable goal of painting hours each week it will help you heaps, I still get home from work, have me grub then a cuppa, but then I go and sling some paint around for an hour or two and feel bloody good about it, your confidence will soon begin to build up again and with that little bit of pressure of getting a pic on the forum each month it gives you a constant focus.
All the jargon you hear from many artist is all just other ways of doing the stuff you already do! That eagle on the tank was awesome and must show you that you defo have all skills there, you just need to believe more in your own abilities, which in all honesty only comes from continually painting and pushing yourself to try and master new stuff.
Because I was not really painting I lost all my confidence, I would look back at say the Fredo Frog picture I painted at wonder at how I did it, then get frustrated with myself and think why the hell am I not painting more! It was just a combination of life and confidence, yeah you see many very talented people on the forum and there is no reason why you should not put yourself in that category lady Squishy.
One thing I learnt from being at the KKBO with Mitch and talking to people like Mick and so many other Artists is that if your really want to make it successfully as an airbrush artist then you really have to put in a hell of a lot of time and effort. Not easy when you have a normal day job as well, but possible with a bit of commitment and focus to improve grow and get you into a position hopefully where you may think "hey I'm doing pretty good at this I may take the plunge"!
I for one like many would love to be able to give up work and make a living out of this, and i was very recently in a position with work where I had the opportunity to take a very nice redundancy handout and take that plunge...but after some good honest chats with Mitch and talking to guys at the show , I knew i was nowhere near committed enough and couldn't even manage the time I had now!
I kept saying to myself and other people that I was "just a beginner" and Lisa(wife) turned to Mitch and said "why does he keep calling himself a beginner" to which he said " he's not, he's an artist, he just needs to believe it again". Whatever way you want to go with airbrushing,be it make a living out of it or just as a hobby, it's all about confidence and the more you practice the more your will confidence grow, but that will only come from some sort of commitment from yourself, which is why we are here to help and encourage.
I truly believe that every single person who has joined this forum and picked up an airbrush is because they want to master it and emulate those people they have seen on YouTube and these forums etc, nobody has decided to start airbrushing because they thought they might be crap at it! It just takes commitment from yourself and the determination to master the control of that little spray gun, and help is always on hand on this forum to get you to that goal, we can all do it!
Well that was quite a little outburst...was only going to write a couple of lines! In short, I'm glad to see you take that step to help yourself Trish, your a damn fine artist lady and it's seems to me you have just stopped believing it and anything we can do to help is fine by us:)

That's me done
Kev

Ha ha that is feckin brilliant mate...how the hell do you find these clips!
Class mate pure class:)

Kev, thank you so much for the pep talk, I really identify with a lot of what you said. I think of myself as wanting to be an artist, not that I am an artist, so I totally get what you mean by thinking of yourself as a beginner, though it's been two years for me, and that's a bit of a stretch now Lol, I need to think of myself as an improving artist instead I guess. I just promoted myself , ha! I feel like you guys are my very own support group and I have taken my first step, admitting I have a problem LOL! I need to commit! Many people have told me I need to be committed over the years, I guess they knew me better than I knew myself....wait.....that is what they meant right??? I've always needed a bit of pressure to get things done, at school I always did my homework at 2 am the night before. You'd think I'd've grown up by now, but no, (no danger of that) which is why Kevs great idea is just what I need. Anyway, you guys are the best, and I can't thank you enough for all the help and encouragement you all give, guess I just need to keep my end of the deal, get my arse in gear, and get focused.

Seriously guys!!!!! Your stuff rocks! Put on those well known branded shoes, and just do it!

So, already I'm not sticking to the program Lol. Just did a quickie that I was asked to do for a friends daughters birthday, a Minion. (Those little buggers are popping up all over the place aren't they. A bit embarrassed to show mine after Russ's amazing 10 year old's work) But anyway, did I take photos as I went along? ......errrr no. Did I get any originality in?.....well I added some sky, but .........ummmm, no. So as far as some of my commitments go, massive fail. LOL!! DSCF2441 (1280x956).jpg But I guess I did crack on with it, and get it done, and I know she will like it which is the main thing. It's on an almost A4 sized little canvas, which is a surface I hate painting on, but I had no gesso and it was a bit of a rush job so just went with it. Thank God for this months competition, if I can get that done I will be able to redeem myself, and keep my promises.

Squishy, there is nothing wrong with a quickie! (subliminal hint thrown to wife) :devilish:
I think it looks great! Hell, I am slacking, I haven't even created my log thingy yet. :)

That did come out really cool the denim and the glasses real nice. And as far as the clouds...I know you must have used the Tutors cloud tutorial right.... since they came out awesome as well..

Thanks Jeff, I wish I could do clouds like the Tutor! Just used some good old fashioned cotton wool, and a bit of shading. It's my go to method for clouds, simple but reasonably effective, a bit like me....on a god day LOL!

Is that 100% airbrushed or did you use a paint brush as well? I am looking at the hair basically...
