Yes, these ones as well as the FX stencils, a set of french curves can also be useful. Of course you can make your own with paper for specific shapes.

What did you use to degrease the surface? You can do it without scuffing. You need to make a water break free surface. If you don't want to scuff it...

Yes, the video could be useful... there is a peculiar sound they make when they stop... if it won't pick up on a video then it is actually quiet!

Highly unlikely that someone can tell you a drop ratio from sight only. Matching colour is a learnt and very practical thing. A good colour wheel...
