My name is Tomas and Im new to this airbrush thing. I don't consider myself as an artist but I like to do staff by myself. It all started because I've got my motorcycle to paint. So I started to search how to go about that. After research I thought, why not to try to do something fancier than just one simple color. I started to look for some tutorials on airbrush and found on YT airbrush tutor... that leaded me to this forum. I did get myself an airbrush (knockof which I didn't know at a time). and started to practice. Dots. lines and dagger strokes. It didn't went well. Enamel paints are not good for practice...Chinese airbrush it is not good for practice...Chinese compressor with no tank it is not good for that eider. Bored of strokes and frustrated with gear. Switched to my little by size and massive by volume of noise other compressor with 6l tank. Have built a box for it (to dump some noise), it didn't made a big difference. I decided to try to airbrush something better than a dot. and went for 'THE EYE'. As I watched several of Michs tutorials, went to his web page to grab free reference and an outline. Couldn't find anything on there to download, apart from some pictures. As I use a projector to use my PC I went for it and just have done an outline from one of eye pictures (Sorry Mich I'll get you some beer when you'll visit UK). my first attempt to airbrushing:DSC_0001.JPG

just after I finished it, one of my neighbors knocked on my garage door asking what that buzzing noise is. It was 2 am... no more practice till I'll sort noise problem.

Regards, Tomas

lol... welcome from New Zealand. What part of the UK are you from? Noisy compressors... oh yes! Good looking start though.

Thanks Mark! I live in Plymouth in Devon, mate. But I am not British. I'm from Poland.
I took my compressor of its tank. Bought a freezer and removed it's compressor. Tomorrow will try to marry my tank with freezer compressor. I can't see why Bambi compressors are soooo expensive. It's unreal!DSC_0004.JPG
My Chinese brush do not let me to control it. trigger seems to work half way through pulling motion. I'm just wondering what brush will be good start for me...

Welcome from Australia.
In order to get the free tutorials on the airbrush tutor site you need to register there.

Good start with the eye, keep going :)
Well done on the compressor too, it will be interesting to see how it operates

Thanks Jooooooooseph ;). Im not entirely happy with it, but i think I've got an idea where i went wrong. First biggest issue is my brush. It's simply impossible to control.

Actually... You already have the Chinese brush. Clean it. And put in some real airbrush paint.
It takes a while to gain control over an airbrush. Learning how to reduce paint properly etc is all part of the curve.

When your ready to buy... I like Iwata eclipses as a great all around brush for beginners to advanced painters.

Thanks jack. Thanks for info about airbrush tutor web page. If youre from Texas you must to be a cowboy! Never been there, but watched alot of american movies ;)

Hi Nada. after enamel paint, i went for some ink and after that (and reading this forum) I went for Wicked white, black, reducer and brush cleaner. Its massive difference to spray 'real' airbrush paint, then ink. I might be ready for real deal brush end of next week ( pay day). :D

Hi JohnMicheal, I'm in the UK too. I started airbrushing for the same reason as you, to paint my own bike. I started with a knock off brush, rubbish paint etc, and wasted a lot of time, do yourself a favour and get something decent. It will save a lot of time and frustration. And when you think how much someone would charge you to paint your bike, buying a good brush suddenly doesn't seem so expensive.

I also recommend the eclipse, particularly the hp-cs, its not the cheapest, but far from the most expensive, and great for auto work as its so versatile. Shop around if you decide to go that way there is a big price difference in many shops - Ive seen a £40 difference. Airbrush model sites seem to be cheaper.

I also use Wicked paints (by createx). Some people don't like it because it has alot of pigment and needs a lot of reduction and you must use the manufacturer s reducer ( it doesn't work with water). But the pigment makes the colours reaaly bright and they look great when cleared, the Detail ( what they call their grandparents) really pop nicely. You just need to spend a little time experimenting with ratios to get good flow. Many people love it for auto, plus as an all round paint, it can be used on virtually any other surface too.

Nice work on the eye :)

Hello Tomas and welcome from Canada... The eye looks fantastic for your first attempt and was much better then any of mine :)

hi squishy. Thanks for good advise. I'll look into that. Just can't tell my girl how much I'm about to spend. Knowledge is power, but lack of it is blessing( in some cases).
Thanks Ricky for a good word.
regards, Tomas

Welcome from the states. The wicked will help you, once you get the hang of mixing it. Great job on eye! This is a great place to learn. Have fun!

Just go to a paintshop and get a quote, then when you pick yourself up off the floor lol, (It's the overheads, they're a killer) show her the cost of the brush and paints and tell her how you're actually saving money LOL!

If you are interested in the eclipse, this is a good price :-

Hahaha. Good one! Went on to that link, price is better then on eBay. I'll keep that in mind. Ima working on that silent compressor now. Meaby tomorrow will be ready to use. In top of that, friend got me two additional air tanks off of a lorry, but I need to pick it up from Bristol. 30 and 15 liters. And another friend has a second additional fridge compressor for me. So all is looking good!
