After reading a few posts, a thought occurred to me. When in the battle of trying to paint something and getting frustrated that it is not exactly like the reference picture do this. Break the painting down to its simplest elements and not a whole. Color, shapes, light and shadow. Relating each element in its simplest form releases you from the bind of photo realism and allows you to paint more free in terms of shapes and color. Almost abstract. I will guarantee you when you step back and look again at your work in totality you will be surprised any what you have accomplished.
