Hose to compressor connections problems... Maybe?

Hi,

I'm brand new to airbrushing and have been looking to get a low end airbrush to do some undercoating on some metalwork projects I'm currently working on.
To that end, I recently purchased a 2nd hand Passche D3000 Compressor and 'H' airbrush off of ebay. Everything seems ok, and the compressor works and gets up to it's stated PSi without any leaks or issues. The problem I'm having is how the hose connects to the regulator on the compressor as there seems to be an awful lot of play between the nut on the end of the hose and the bit that holds it on. I can never get the connection tight as the nut does not 'do up' sufficiently to allow this. A seal does seem to form when the air is switched on, as the bit that moves is forced into place, but I can hear and feel air linking from the connection.

I have uploaded a short video to Vimeo that shows the problem...

Any opinions or suggestions, most welcome.

Cheers

Joe

I'm unsure about paasche hoses but a lot of airbrush hoses are BSPP threads.
On your hose do you have a oring at the bottom of your threads?

You might be trying to screw a 1/4 BSPP (oring seal) or BSPT thread onto a normal NPT threads.

I would try some PTFE tape on the threads. Just be sure when putting on the tape that you are going with the direction in which you are threading it. If you go the wrong direction it may bind on the inside and not create a proper seal.
Hope this helps

Sorry just watched the video... Should've did that first lol. Yep there's some play there... LT got the right idea... Looks like you are missing a piece for the hose.

The regulator outlet is suppose to press against the smaller hose on the connector. If the hose can't screw in anymore then you have the wrong thread on the regulator.

Big thanks for all the responses thus far...

Having looked at the outgoing connector of the regulator, it definitely has a descernable taper to it. Now as it is a US product, I'm assuming it is NPT, and not BSPT, which is also tapered.
Thankfully I own some calipers, and have calculated it as being 1/4in. Measuring the inside of the hose connector is a little trickier, but from what I can tell it is 1/4 too, but not tapered so presumably BSP.

Anyway, I have dropped Passche an email asking if they can help. However, as the item was bought 2nd hand from eBay, I don't know if they will or not. If they don't I'll just go on instinct and buy a 1/4 NPT to 1/4 BSP adapter anyway, they're not a lot of money.

I'll re-post here once I have a response/solution.

Cheers

Really quick response from Paasche....

As I suspected after measuring it, they told me it's 1/4 NPT. eBay here I come :)

any local automotive parts store or local Jobber paint store should have that in stock. I use a 1/4 NPT quick connect on the airbrush hose so I can just plug it in anywhere in the shop.

You can get sets like this

Sorry I am not sure what county you live in

Thanks for the suggestions.

I live in the UK, unfortunately.... The land of idiots that want to leave Europe :-(

Just ordered one of off eBay for £4, free delivery.

Cheers

Good to hear Paasche got back to you so quickly. Give us an update when you get the hose.
