Wicked Detail Reducer - Alternatives

Chris g

Double Actioner
Hi,

The mail order supplier I buy from no longer stocks wicked reducer so I was wondering if anyone had found other reducers that work well with wicked detail.

Thanks

Chris G

Wicked detail reducer is available pretty much all over the world, why do you want to use something other than what the manufacturer recommends...?

I don't but, they have a range of products that I regularly use and good service so, to save money on postage, I thought I would ask.

Are they removing all Createx/Autobourne products ? if not then they will be able to order in the 4012.

Fair enough. It's annoying when your regular supplier changes stuff!

not sure what these guys compare for pricing in your area

a lot of small operators don't want dead stock on the shelf, maybe if you call them and ask if they can still get in in they may be able to

I think you've answered my question. Looks like 4012 is the answer. I didn't realise that this could be used with wicked detail. I can see it makes sense to have one reducer that will work for a range of paints, which explains why I could only find the auto air reducers.

Thanks for your help.

Chris

Sometimes if you're really lucky, they'll get it for you at cost. Especially if you are doing business with them for other products.

It would have been worth me asking, easy to forget sometimes that on-line doesn't necessarily mean you can't ask a question !

Glad to be of help :D yes 4012 can be used across the entire createx range including Candy 2.0. I still have a large bottle of the older 4011 reducer but that now gets used for cleaning

It seems to me that Createx has several different products that are really the same thing- just branded differently to match up to their product lines. I'm too tired and foggy at the moment to be sure lol :p

W100 is 4011 and w500 is 4012.
Depending which createx line and what substrate will determine which reducer is best, then you also have the 4030 intercoat.

All createx is designed to be intermixable, and yes some are the same, they just label it to match the particular line. The 4030, though originally called an intercoat, is now called a mix additive, it cannot be used as an intercoat for the candy line ( as you will get bleedthrough), so they have moved away from calling it that as it cannot be used for that purpose across all the lines. You can use it for that reason with other lines, but they generally recommend the transparent base for intercoat.

I didn't know this. I'm glad I read this!

The different ranges from Createx have different bases/binders. Just so that you know. This is what Createx emailed me.

"Auto Air 4004 and Wicked W200 are the same resin base (Wicked Detail Colors use a different resin base, however it’s not available as a transparent base, same as the resin used to make Auto Air 4600 Series Candy – Pigment Colors)
5601 Createx Airbrush Colors Transparent Base is its own resin, unique to the Createx Airbrush Colors line
5090 Createx Illustration Colors Transparent Base is its own resin, unique to the Createx Illustration Colors line"
