Iwata Eclipse HP-CS issue on day 2.

I had an aggravating issue after my fiance bought me what I thought was the cadillac of airbrushes... I used the brush to paint a lure with 3 colors and did a thorough cleaning afterwards. Came back the next day to paint and started by shooting some cleaner through (Medea airbrush cleaner that came with it) and at 30psi it was extremely weak. Then I noticed this:

Seems like the junk that was removed clogged all kinds of stuff up. Not something I wanted to tackle after only having the airbrush for <48hrs. I returned the Eclipse for exchange but they didn't have a replacement on hand. How did this happen? I could maybe see this being an issue after multiple soakings in something like Windex/ammonia, but after a simple cleaning, sitting for a night?

Currently reviewing my options for a replacement. I'm open for opinions.

So help me here, what it the problem...? Is it the plating that has come off? That wouldn't clog it. Happens with use. What sort of paint did you use? Did you check the nozzle for blockages?

When you cleaned it the night before what did you do? run cleaner through it? back flush? Break it down? what was the paint you used?

I assume you bought it from an authorized iwata dealer and it wasn't "used" and "returned" and you bought it?

Hi,Im guessing you didnt backflush. I also have a hp-cs and a good backflush at the end of a session removes all kinds of crud that is not immediately visible.i also remove the end cap and give the tip a little wipe with a toothbrush

I have several Airbrush's that the plating has worn down and I found it was not an issue after I stopped using Windex with ammonia in it. I mostly just use water and airbrush cleaner. I break down the needle, nozzle, head and clean with brushes and filtered water. Then a good spray with airbrush cleaner and a flush with distilled water. I have a few fine art brushes that are real fine tipped that I clean inside the nozzle with. I also use an airbrush cleaning brush from a kit to clean the tube where the needle feeds through by the packing bearing and the flush with water from back to front while the head is off so that any paint can flush right out the front of the brush. It may be overkill, but I never have clogged brushes.

I would always recommend the hp-cs. Sucks that this has happened over night. However it is something that happens over time anyway and is just cosmetic. It does not affect the performance of the brush.

It is weird that it happened like this though. I have never heard of this happening over night with an eclipse before, even with aggressive cleaners. It is possible the cleaner you used initially reacted with any paint left in the nozzle (even though you cleaned it, stuff can still hide in there -, we've all been there :/) and gummed it up. Even water will do that if its not compatable. The chrome coming off is possibly just a co incidence that has nothing to do with the paint flow. But it is odd. The medea cleaner certainly wouldn't cause this overnight usually.

Are you sure its a genuine Iwata? From a genuine seller. I think I read you returned it, but if you have pics it should have Iwata hp - cs stamped on the side, plus the word Japan and two letters which is a code from when it was made. If you send any pics including the one posted here, plus the supplier you got it from to one of the contacts here http://www.iwata-medea.com/contact-info/

they will get back to you. If it is an issue with production the seller wont be at fault, and they will want to know. I'm sure they will help resolve the situation for you.

It was apparently bought from Hobby Lobby, so one would hope its a genuine iwata.

I initially stopped using the Medea cleaner because of this and also got given a new one. But the new one with other cleaners has also changed colour but it has taken years not hours.

Mainly clean was not clean . when I back flush mine at the end of the day I crank it up to 60 or 70 PSI , Black flush it , and dump it then repeat before trying to spray anything through it.
Soaking the nozzle in restorer (by createx0http://www.coastairbrush.com/proddetail.asp?prod=Restorer&cat=690 will remove any left behind paint in the nozzle only soak the nozzle ! But I say you clog it not from the discoloration of the cup but from dried paint inside the nozzle itself.

Thanks for all of the responses, guys. Hobby Lobby had no issue taking the brush back, which was great, but they don't have anymore in stock so I missed out on their current 40% sale... we've been checking every day.

To answer most of the questions: at the end of the day I cleaned it extremely good, as it still had that new car smell to it... flushed it with medea cleaner and water, took the needle out and flushed it from the back as I had seen in a couple of videos, and of course backflushed it as well. I then let the tip soak for a while in medea cleaner / water mix. I used a few wicked paints thinned out really well as it was on a transparent fishing lure.

The next evening I got nothing out of the brush when in the 15psi range. No air, no paint, nada.

I would've dug deeper as to what the issue was, but I was kind of frustrated after seeing the chrome faded off etc already, so I went ahead and returned it. I understand it'll eventually happen anyways, but when buying a brand new brush I expect it to stay new for a bit. Hopefully my local hobby lobby restocks soon so I can get back at it. I went back to my neo last night and gave it a good clean before using. Over-torqued the nozzle and broke it. Karma is not on my side with this airbrushing thing!

Never seen this happen overnight. Most of my well used airbrushes look like this from wiping out with a paper towel but they work fine but I would've returned it as well. All I use to clean my airbrushes is denatured alcohol mixed 50% with water.

The Hobby Lobby can be pulled up on your phone and just show them, they'll get the code and enter it I use it all the time

Thanks for all of the responses. Neither of the 2 Hobby Lobbys in my area re-stocked the kit, but I found one of comparable price online. Got my new brush this evening.
