Hello everyone
I'm returning to airbrushing from ten years of absence. I think I'm starting to get back my muscle memory . I've definitely forgotten a lot of what I knew though. I'm using several types of paint ComArt, wicked, and Golden high flow. I've used a badger 100IL and Paasche millennium and a VL3 they are all over 20 years old. Right now what I use is Iwata CM-sb and my Hp-C plus and an HP-bh . I have a trigger airbrush but I haven't got the hang of that yet. I'm looking forward to talking to other Airbrush enthusiasts!

Welcome Countess,
You'll be painting like you never left before you know it.

Hey Countess, welcome to the family from the UK. You have some really good kit, once you get your mojo back there'll be no stopping you.

Wicked is my fave paint. If you aren't already using it, you need to get the high performance reducer (4o12), awesome flow, virtually no tip dry when dialed in plus a great cleaner.

Look forward to seeing your stuff.

Thanks Jonathan, Basepaint and Squishy . Funny thing is last night I was fighting with the micron cause it's brand new and I was reading here about the 4012 reducer. I finally used one that came with the bloodline paint and suddenly it worked ! I got perfect lines with the micron the day I got it but after that all it did was spit until yesterday. I'll probably get a set of the wicked primary I keep reading good things about it.

I use the Wicked primary color set, 4030 intercoat clear, high performance reducer 4012, and the trans base. I've actually used the reducer and trans base with americana and applebarrel hobby paints and the Iwata eclipse hp cs atomized them fairly well too..I also decant some of my rattle can enamels and have used them, but I thin them with paint thinner or mineral spirits

I love the Wicked line. It can take some getting used to as it has a lot of pigment, which I love as it gives it its vibrant colour, but means it takes quite a lot of reduction. It doesn't play well with water as it has a small amount of solvent being a waterbourne rather than water based paint. This makes it suitable for pretty much any surface which again I love, and as its lightfast can be used for outdoor or automotive work too.

For those only wanting to paint on paper/board etc, the illustration line is a good choice, bit for versatility Wicked is awesome.

The 4030 ( originally branded as an intercoat clear, but now called a mix additive as it is not suitable across the createx range as an intercoat - it cant be used with Candy20) is now also being used to farther improve flow as Jonathon said. It emulsifies the paint. Add to paint then reduce the mix as a whole with 4012.

Trans base is paint carrier without pigment, and can be added to give body back to over reduced paint, or to reduce the amount of pigment per volume to lighten the colour.

The poison green candy 20 I bought says to use the 4030 inter coat...I used then on a peony canvas I'm painting\airbrushing. But I'm not building up layers on different candies onto one another either thou..just used it to make the highlights of the foliage pop a little more...plus I just really wanted to try my candy lol

Jonathan how fast do the rattle can enamels dry out?also how do you store them ? I've not used any candy paint yet. I don't even know where to shop anymore ☹ Chicago Airbrush/genesis art supply closed down! I lived 20 minutes away it was my favorite place.
Squishy I want to try the wicked paint even more now. Do you know if wicked needs a desperate clear coat if it's outside or is the 4030 enough?

Thanks for the Welcome Jurien72.

I've never decanted more than I was gonna be using..so sorry no Def answer from me. I've watched YouTube videos where they stored it in like baby food jars after they outgased for a bit. If it helps the black I had in a glass jar with lid still had some liquid state left the next morning, but that was a few months ago and it's long dried up since. But I also didn't reduce that part of the paint either.. I normally use the rattle can paint straight outta the cans and do that street artwork painting style or whatever it's called

I've used tattoo inks/pigments mixed with polyacrylic and made a homemade candy that looked good, but I didn't airbrush with that I brushed it on by hand

Welcome to the forum Countess, we're a big family here, i hope you stay with us for a while. It won't be long till you get your skills back and we will be here to give you all of the encouragement you need.

I wanted to use airbrush paint with Montana rattle can paint but the airbrush paint I was using at the time just wipes right off.

U wanted to mix them, airbrush over something that already has Montana on it, or use Montana AS ur airbrush paint?
