Airbrush storage

Hello all,

With an ever increasing collection of airbrushes (!) I've been thinking about how best I can organise and store them. What I'd like to do is get some foam for a drawer I have and make some cutouts in it for each of my brushes - has anyone else done this?

I know you can get 'pluck and pick' foam (which is expensive) but I'd like to know how others organise/store their brushes please.

Any tips/advice?

TIA

Jim

well I have only 4 airbrushes and I dont really store them but are on the airbrush stands so I can pick em up when ever I need them

Hi Ronald, thanks for the reply. What type of airbrush stand do you use, is it one of the ones that clips onto benches etc?

I have quite a few - but, I have kept every box that a brush came in. The ones I am not using stay packed in a box, and cataloged in a filing cabinet. There are some that don't come in boxes, or in a box that would hold up over time - so fortunately some of the less expensive imports that I tried came with nice foam lined boxes ;). Some I have in a stand that i made, that sits in a book shelf - holds them in a similar fashion as a desk mounted stand might... The ones I am using are either in an open box on my side table, or in a holder at the edge of my desk.

Sounds like you have quite a few Dave

I "only" have 6 airbrushes: the 3 I use stay on the bench, and the 3 I don't are in their boxes at the back of a drawer. I'd sell the one's I don't use, but 2 of them are so terrible I'd feel bad foisting them on someone else, and 1 is a redundant parts donor and mod testbed for one of the ones I do use.

Of the 3 that live on the bench, 2 are on a stand. My stand is a cheap one I got off Amazon. It was a bench clamping type, but the plastic clamp was rubbish, so I took it off and stuck the pole into a heavy steel sprocket to form a weighted base. Works well, but the pole is a bit short, so hoses fetch up awkwardly against the bench edge. I've been meaning to make a taller pole for it out of aluminum rod.

I used to want a nice hard case for storage and travel, but since neither is frequent or likely for me, it's doesn't really feel necessary anymore. I have a couple plastic Plano pistol cases and a square of EVA foam floor mat I could cut into custom inserts if I had too, but again, it's so non-urgent that I've never gotten 'round to it.

I have several and keep my main ones in 2 pelican boxes with inserts cut in the foam. The others are in an aluminium flight case again with foam inserts which are cut out.

I have lost count of how many I have. I usually put them back in their boxes. But I have seen a friend or 2, use cigar boxes, and "foam", and simply cut out the airbrush size needed for storage

Just once, I'd love to see a shot of every single one of Dave's airbrushes lol. I don't think they make a big enough table!
that is not far off from the truth ;). By the time I get the first drawer full out of their boxes, I start running out of places to put stuff down. Maybe I need a bigger house so I could get them out for a family portrait. I'll mention it to my wife, and see where that conversation goes :laugh:lol:eek:

Bwahahaha... she will probably tell you that the backyard is big enough for you and your airbrushes! :p

I went to Walmart and bought some of the foam padding you place on the floor for working out. It works great. Lay your airbrush down, trace over it, cut out the foam a lil smaller than the airbrush then test fit it. I even bought some suede to upholster the foam to clean it up some but have never put the suede on lol. I'll get to it one of these years lol

That sounds like just what I want to do - any chance of a photo?

I only have two brushes and they are permanently in the brush holder stand which can hold up to 4 if I am ever lucky enough to get more airbrushes.

I only have the one airbrush and just use the box it came in for now. But alot of times it sits inside my compressor. It's an Iwata silver jet pro and has a rubber holder that you can slide your brush into.
