Airbrush fittings

Hello,

My compressor arrived! Got everything that I think I'll need (Compressor, filter, manometer and pressure regulator - Did I miss something?).

But... Apparently, I need to buy an adapter from 1/4 to 1/8 to finally be able to use my airbrush

I'm having a lot of trouble to find a female 1/4 to male 1/8 here, so I decided to look on <insert china site here> (Mostly due to reduced shipping costs from china, tbh)

Then I noticed: There's brass fittings and stainless steel fittings!

Are there any difference between those? (Air leaks, deformations, or anything I should know?)
Any recommendation of which one I should use? :)

I'm anxious to get one of these and be able to have some painting fun. I'm going for a last attempt on my city this Friday and if I can't find, I'll order from china (and wait 3 months to get it :( )

Thank you in advance!

Are you sure you need one?
I thought badger were the only ones that needed an adapter.

Apparently that bottom piece on the ultra that seems like one piece is actually two.

Sadly, H&S infinity cr plus comes only with a 1/8 and a quick connect (1/8 size too) and my compressor (and filter/pressure regulator) uses 1/4 connections.

I just removed the quick connect from the airbrush just to be sure, but yeah, only 1/8 in there :(

Still, thanks for sending me this advice!
It was a nice try! :D

Seemed like it was worth a shot. Sorry.
Anyway the adaptor on my badger is brass if that helps.
Came with it so i guess badgers vote is for brass

I like chromed/nickle coloured fittings but that is just me liking the way it looks. Performance I'm sure it is the same.

@Robbyrockett2 , you are right that Badger is the only manufacturer that uses an odd size and most like needs an adapter, but on the compressor side you usually need a 1/4" to 1/8" adapter.

With a clearer head and that Awesome diagram from @AndreZA
The only thing I would add is that on vehices I usually go with the same metals as what it will attach to......Just to negate the possibility of galvanic corrosion and because if it will be removed and refastened many times than a stainless fitting can wear out brass threads pretty quick.
Just have to take a close look to see if its chrome plated brass or stainless that you're attaching to.
Probably overthinking it though, when it comes to this I imagine the difference would be pretty negligible.

Thats why I use Paasche hoses- a 1/4in NPT fitting will screw directly to the hose.

That's an awesome diagram!
By looking at it, it seems I'm getting most of the stuff right (except for a moisture trap right after the quick disconnect. Is it really needed? (I wonder where I'll buy one that won't cost super expensive)).

I tend to overthink all of that too haha
here, I found only brass connections and niqueled brass connections. Well, I found them! (More about it below :) )

Sadly, I don't have access to most of the knows brands. I"m happy I was able to get a H&S Infinity CR Plus when a friend was travelling :D

Okay, so I did find a store with a bunch of connections - YAY!
It's only a bit far, so it will be a while until I'm able to go there again...

First question, the guy asks me about NPT and BSP. After some talk, I settled with NPT.

I got:
  • a 1/4 female to 1/4 male connector
  • a quick disconnect valve for 1/4
  • a 2m 1/4 hose and the needed plugs to get it into my compressor.

This is the picture of the 1/4 quick disconnect I got:

But something concerns me... Apparently I had (without knowing) a BSP 1/4 quick disconnect (which I kinda like it more, aesthetically).

Also, the inner diameter is smaller in the one I bought (0,5 mm) in comparison with the one I had (0,7 mm). Does that make any real difference for air compressed air applications?

I'm willing to buy a couple more quick disconnects (easier to manage where I'm willing to work), but I can't find on the internet (and I'm planning to order from china, since it has free shipping and it's like 1/5 of the price I paid here), but I"m having trouble to find matching patterns. I can't find any quick disconnect that has the same exact shape :(

Any advice for that? :)

(Also, if there's a trustworthy shop with low shipping cost to Brazil, I'd probably quickly prefer it, compared to china).

Thank you very much, again!

Most hardware stores have the parts you need at a good price and you can look before you buy to make sure there what you need

Sadly, this is not true for where I live :(
I spent almost 15 days visiting whenever I could local stores to try and buy those. If I was REALLY lucky, I could find a few 1/4 connections (that were useless to me) and they would just laugh when I mentioned 1/8. usually they run with 1/2 connections, most of the time :(

I had to go to a neighboring city to get the ones for me needs... And well, this take an entire afternoon, so I'm trying to avoid spending all the time going in there... ><

Still, I hope someday it will be easier to find that stuff around here :)

Zoc, try to search for Pneumatic and hydraulic stores, they sell all the parts you need! Must to be a lot of them in Rio!

I did exactly that, no luck around... A few relatives all pointed towards a store that is 30-40 mins away (on car) , kinda sad going in there, but it seems to be the best/only option :(
(everywhere else, the smallest connections were 1/2)

I think "city" was a bad choice of words.. Google translate suggests me to use "district" or "neighborhood" in place of it... Well, it's a 30-40 mins car drive.
(I need to go to "São Cristovão" in Rio de Janeiro to get to this store).

So, I bought the missing connections today.

I got an old piece of wood and sanded it, so it looks reasonably good, added the filter to it, a couple screw eyes and made a easy to disassemble piece.

Sadly this is an old building and since I can't rewire the wall (no idea if that makes sense in english - need to add a 220v socket on the wall for the compressor, the usual here is 110v), I got a 5m hose to aid me to reach my working area, at least until this is solved. Got a couple 1/4 quick disconnects valve and I should be ready to try it tomorrow! :D

Thanks for all the support! Anxious for tomorrow! :D
