Just made some mods ....

Double Actioner
I made some mods to my airbrush, do you guys recognize what it is? When I spoke to the rep at this company, they didn't think I could even do it but I did. What an improvement in the trigger and needle tension...

Ding ding ding!! And you win.......NOTHING. I would heartily recommend the mod as the hardest part is cutting a couple of inches of the back of the needle. The deeper trigger for air is quite noticeable and with the better needle tension springs I found, makes this a sweet little brush on par with my Olympos 100SB with HP-B parts for detail work. I plan on taking my second V and doing the same but it will have a #2 needle. I called Paasche and after telling the rep the website blew for searching for parts, he is sending me a free Vision handle (in black like a SOTAR) for free! That will go on this one and the yellow will go on the second V, that way I can tell them apart at a glance.

In my parts diagram for the V, it lists that Talon handle as an option. I think its a TAL-134 or something. What other parts did you use?

The best way to navigate the Paasche website is to type the part numbers into the search box- I've found stuff that way that I cannot find looking through the pages!

All you need to do is order the following items;

-Talon (or Raptor in gray or Vision in black) handle with front o ring and needle limiter on the end

-needle spring retainer

-Talon air valve & trigger assembly

You will retain the needle chucking guide and lock nut as well as the air valve spring. That's all folks...

Damn I just bought 3 chrome handles lol. I don't like the yellow handle, didnt know they had gray and black.

Please tell me you didn't buy the VSR rear handles?! I bought one and they are too heavy and mess with the balance of the brush (it's steel) where as the Talon/Raptor/Vision handle is aluminum and balances beautifully. When you try it you'll understand.

I think the balance is perfect with the chrome handles. Then again I seem to prefer a bit heavier brush anyway.

The problem I'm having with my Vs is the opening for the trigger is too narrow and the triggers wont fit down in there. I actually broke one of the old style triggers because it got stuck. Ive been meaning to take some measurements with my micrometer to see whats going on with that.

There's an easy fix for that, get the new style trigger and air valve shaft. You end up using your existing air valve spring and retaining nut at the bottom of the airvalve(don't forget to pull out the rubber o ring!). And all your troubles will disappear. I'm getting really good with these V models and am starting to think you could use some of my Mojo?

Do you mean inside for the air valve into the trigger area? Or do you mean the opening on the outside for the trigger to enter the body?

Yeah where the trigger goes thru the top of the body. Its weird- some fit and some dont.

You aren't kidding about those handles being hard to find. Even searching the part number brings up nothing. I could have a "lazy man's Olympos" with that black handle lol

Oh I did order the new style trigger and the air valve shafts. When I get home I'm gonna pull out my micrometer and see if I can make any sense out of it.

Didn't you mention that your Vs are from the 40's & 50's? If that's right, they may be slightly different than the more modern incarnations. I'm just spit balling here as I doubt it would have been tooled that way and sold if they couldn't fit the trigger assembly. Might I suggest cutting your losses on the older ones and get one from the 1970's or later?

One of them is from the 40s or 50s- the other two are much newer, although I'm not exactly sure when they were manufactured. They were actually purchased "new" from a local art store but Im sure they have been in the guys display case for a long, long time. They have the old style triggers in them.

I notice that Paasche still lists the VV model on their website!

Also you mentioned the needle lengths- no two of my needles are even close to the same length. Some are short and some are long! I have a handful of VL needles that are all pretty much the same length, but the V needles have a variance of maybe 3/8in total. Seems like that would make using the needle limiter a pain. The VSR has a longer body than the V and VJR.

As Ive said before, these brushes are more for collecting than using so I'm not looking to replace them. I have plenty of brushes I can use for serious stuff. I just enjoy playing with these and they look cool, especially with matching chrome handles!

As far as ordering the Talon/Raptor/Vision rear handles, only the Talon comes with the front O ring and needle limiter parts as the other two handles are strictly just the handle. Don't know why Paasche does it this way but now you know. As far as being a poor man's Micron? It is a very respectable brush in its own right and can match any Badger brush including the SOTAR. Best part is it's a whole butt load cheaper and has a short (read normal size) needle bearing instead of Badgers too long needle bearing tube that tend to get burrs and needing a shipment back to Badger for fixing! I do own a Badger Renegade Spirit and I don't care to buy another.

I didnt say a poor mans micron- I said a lazy man's olympos. With the black handle on it, if you squint just right it looks just like an Olympos! ;)

So you did, so you did.. My mistake as I have been in heavy mod mode with the Frankenbrush and it is a Micron now according to DaveG as he says the difference is so slight as to be negligible at best. I am sure you can get one of your Vs serviceable if you put your mind to it. Why have them all as dead weight if you can have some fun with one of them?

Well as I get time I do try to fiddle with them, and a couple of them work to a certain extent. I dont get a lot of time to play around with them. They are fun to spray with!

Just got the black Vision handle and boy is she looking sexy! I do feel you should make one of the Vs fully functional as it will become a "go to" brush. They are just as reliable as the VL and are truly the AK-47 of airbrushes. Crude in some spots but has it all where it really matters.
