This stuff work great ( I generally use it on Yupo)... It comes in gloss, satin and matte. I prefer gloss :)
The clear is also compatible with Createx paint ( not too sure about the com-art).
If you're working on Bristol very light coats might be the best route... To heavy and you might experience some "buckling" in the Bristol.

I’ve used Rustoleum regular Clear with Bristol board and Createx Wicked. It’s a lot cheaper then 2K and does the job perfectly well for a painting.
But as said above, light coats are the way to go.

and probably safer... 2k is a great paint but evil chemicals!

If it's not going to spend its life outdoors, Liquitex matte or gloss varnish from hobby lobby or miacheals i think sells it too. They are decent acrylic clears that almost don't even need to be thinned to spray with airbrush. The gloss is not a smooth shiny gloss when sprayed it's like a shiny sandblasted sort of looking surface. If smooth is needed I use minwax onecoat through a spraygun. Which does need thinned with water still. Minwax polycrylic is also a good option and harder than onecoat but you want to get it already in a spraycan as it doesnt act right when thinned from a quart jar. The minwax products are water based but still have VOCs. Nothing compared to rust oleum or 2k but still would use more than a dustmask. All of these are water based and will be compatible with most any water based paint. To minimize the chance of any bleed I do one thin coat, let dry and then lay it on heavy.

If it's going to be outdoors, that is another story for which I can't recommend Mathews paint enough. It is a 2k clear made for signs and you can usually order through your local body shop supplier that sells PPG. UV resistance is unbelieveable and in practice it goes over any paint I've ever put it over, even thinned and sprayed latex housepaints.

The rust oleum is probably a good outdoor option too if its not serious enough to spend $150+ per gallon on your clear.
You said bristol though so I guess this is probably indoors.

Lol that was a lot of help! Thanks I'm going to test the rustoleum clear on a little test piece. I've already got that one for cosplay stuff. If I'm iffy about it I'll try a different suggestion.
Thanks a lot. I'll let everyone know how it goes.

I use the rustoleum for alot of things. Be warned that it likes to run very easily. It is runny....On anything like a painting or anything flat, I spray while sitting up, then lay it flat to let it level off....(I hope I explained that right)
Cheers
