Suggestions for substrate

So i need to do an 8ft x 12 ft portrait. Which I would like to create as a seamless piece. Normally when I work in this scale I only need to use plywood painted and sanded after attaching to 2x4's.
This piece however will likely need a bit more assurance that the seams will not split and need retouched upon flexing and likely need to be thinner than being backed by 2x4's. It will be indoors.
My Idea Is to double up on 2x2's and use fiberglass over hardboard then use duratec (a high build primer) to build and sand out a smooth surface. I would like to hear some other Ideas though if anyone has some.

My only thought is that this sounds intriguing and I want to see where it goes lol. I leave the ideas to the other guys.

Think Bill boards and wall paper ,That is the old school way of making a big canvas that will pretty much stand up to anything . But damn that is a big painting LOL

Wallpaper or fabric and createx may be a viable option since i'm not entirely certain that the full sized piece could be brought in through any openings. That may be a good way to make it seamless or relatively seamless by being able to roll up the actual painting and install it over panels.

What about building the frame in sections but having the canvas in one piece so that it fold down, but the canvas hides the joins and almost works like hinges? I know Createx is flexible to a degree. That might be pushing it though.

Will it be moved after getting put inside? And are you able to paint it in place? Canvas would be my first choice if you cant paint it in place or it has to be moved. (finding canvas that size might be a prob.?) And if your able to paint it in place and not have to move it I would paint it right on the drywall?

Not a bad idea, Im not sure how tight it could be folded where it wouldnt show creasing when unfolded though.

It will be permanently installed, but it must be completed offsite and shipped. I have the option to travel to supervise the install but If it's easy enough than it won't be necessary. Canvas im not sure i could get that size but I can certainly use muslin thats designed for painted stage backdrops. 10'x20's are easy to come by.

It may end up with seams now anyhow. They expressed some interest in doing it as a 2.5d piece. where the image would be sculpted and protrude a couple of inches, as well as painted. I still don't have confirmation whether it can be brought into the building as a single piece. Multiple pieces like this I usually fill the seams and finish painting and blend out from the seams on site but they don't want any on-site painting on it. Go figure

Sure. I wondered how that might work too.

I think If they don't go the 2.5d route and there are no 10ft entryways I will have to go with something similar to this but roll the painting separate from the frameboards. In which case I'll likely have to go and supervise the install.

If you use the Muslim I would

Go to a carpet store and ask if you can get a cardboard tube from them that carpet comes on,there 10 or 12 ft long and that way you can roll it up and not worry about folds in the Muslim

Thats a great Idea! when I've shipped out backdrops I've had to build crates to put the rolls in.
They don't like to roll back up tight enough to go in the tubes that photo backdrops come in without getting a jagged sort of cardboard fold-ish line. How big are the tubes from the carpets?

Oh I found it, they are 4". Concrete tube might be the route to go though instead of building crates. Never thought about it but found that suggestion while searching for the diameter on carpet tubes.

I put in a bid for one that is 300'x50' it will be a while before I know about it though. That would be my largest painting If I got it, Probably ever.
