How can you tell if there is water in your air line

What are the signs of water being in the air line while airbrushing?

you will be spraying along like a champ, and then all of a sudden a big ol' wad of paint will hit the surface you were so carefully creating. The "wad" is actually water that mixed with paint as it was on the way out through the nozzle of the airbrush...

Or while simply pressing the trigger down to release air, it will start to sound like the airbrush is spitting...

Ok thank you, was spraying yesterday, sprayed black perfectly smooth, then sprayed white and it was slightly bumpy in some areas, i thought maybe a little water in the line but it might have been overspray or dry spray. Usong wicked colors.

I had this problem yesterday. I got lucky and mine spit while calling for air only and i caught it in time. Think im going to be changing compressors for one with a tank if i can control the noise level.

That is just a phenomenon common to all whites, they are always difficult to spray and just won't behave like most other colours, the easiest way is to avoid having to use white as much as you can by preserving your white or highlighted areas, some of us do that by masking, scratching or erasing back to the substrate, also spraying white over black often results in "blue shift" which can be really ugly if you weren't actually trying for it.

I was spraying black when it happened to me, but your right on the white and hi Malky how have you been.

when in doubt place a grip or inline filter between the airbrush and the airline that will catch all water that is in the airline

I got the pistol grip inline water filter and I think it makes the airbrush easier to hold then without it

I got the water problem again..going to go pickup another water trap tomorrow. Im done painting for the night

I had the same problem with water. I have just a small diaphragm on demand compressor so it gets hot when in use, and I spray in a Sapir room in the basement so it can get damp. Even using a water trap water was still getting through. I fixed it by getting about 10 or 15 feet or 1/4 inch copper tubing a few brass compression fittings and a descant filter to go after the water trap. The copper tubing helps the air to cool off before it reaches the water trap making it work better. The descant filter works as a last line of defence. I will try to put a picture up soon of my contraption. It is not pretty but it works.

If you want to go really crazy you can coil the tubing through an old mini fridge from top to bottom and put your trap right after it comes out then add a coil that snakes up the backside or wraps around the high pressure side of the lines to re-warm the air, $75 refrigerated air dryer, no need for dessicant.

I thought about doing it that way but when I drilled through the fridge the wife yelled at me and took away all my airbrushing equipment and would not give it back until I got a new one. Something about it was being used for the dog food or something like that, I stopped listening. Lol.
This setup seems to work so far, at least until I can run an air line from my bigger compressor in the garage.
Here is a picture of how I have it set up.

LOL , sounds exactly like something that would happen in my house

sounds more like a still then an air compressor?:D:D Hot tank, cooling coils liquid out!:whistling::whistling: just saying.
You figured out my secret. :sus:It helps get the creative juices flowing. Though since I installed it I seem to have more headaches when ever I paint and never get much done before I get dizzy. Maybe time to get a new respirator. Well I have to go my still is calling. Lol:D
