.3 needle jamming trigger in 105

Hello everyone I'm new to airbrushing and have been using a 105 Patriot for a couple months now. My wife got me the supper detail conversion with the .3 needle for Christmas. When I changed the .5 set up for the .3 the needle jammed up the trigger I loosened the chucking nut and the trigger moved freely but the needle would not move, slightly tighten it trigger would lock up. Only thing that I think could cause this is that paint dried in front of the needle bearing and its grabbing the needle when I push it through the brush. I carefully clean the brush after each use and switching back to the .5 set up the needle moves freely not sure what I have done

does the needle move with ease if you pull or push it by hand with the chucking nut loose that is ?

When I took the .3 needle out and replaced the .5 the trigger engaged and the needle moved freely. I had to pull pretty hard on the .3 to get it out of the gun and it took more force than I thought nessesary to push the .3 past the needed bearring when I installed it. There was some restance when I put the .5 in the gun wonder if some paint got into the needle seal

did you replace the needle seal when you changed to the 0.3 set up ? the 0.3 needle should fit right trough a 0.5 seal but a 0.5 should not go trough a 0.3 seal with ease I get the feeling something else is going on with your airbrush

This may be a silly question but the .3 set up was Badger made right?
Being if I recall correctly the .5 and .3 use the same shaft size , But if the .3 is to tight then try loosening up the needle bearing and adjust it to fit the needle shaft. badger105parts.png
But you can always send it to Badger and they can install the new set up for you and service your airbrush too.

I'm betting paint.seaped back and got in the needle bearing channel prehaps inside the bearing it's self. That would explain why it's hard to push the .3 needle past the barring and hard to extract it what's the best way to clean it out complete tare down and soak in thinner?

You can give it a hot soak in hot tap water with mild soap. I am not sure how old your airbrush is the older models did not come with a PTFE needle bearing but instead a rubber 0-ring, so if it does have the rubber in it the thinner could cause more issues .

I just bought the brush in December from Amazon so it should have the ptfe barring I'll try the hot soak in soapy water ty for the suggestion.

Did you try the swap more than once?
I have no idea your level of experience or anything else but I know there were a couple of times I recall simply putting something back together a bit off, or wrong that made the trigger unable to move on my krome. Something to do with the rocker if i remember right.

I'm beginning to think the .33 needle sent with 105 super detail conversion is the wrong diameter for the 105 Patriot or it came bent from the factory. I can put the fine .50 needle in the brush and it moves freely the .33 is difficult to press through the needle barring and then will not move at all when I tighten the needle Chuck nut and pull back on the trigger. I'm going to call Amazon and get a replacement.

Welcome to the forum Jason75mm. I also have a 105 and it does something similar with either needle size if the trigger and back lever aren't quite lined up correctly and the tube shank not screwed in all the way. The needles become hard to move let alone extract from or insert into the airbrush.
The first time it happened, I took things apart, cleaned the parts, rubbed down the needle with thinner, and then carefully put the airbrush back together. It was fine afterwards.
Since then, I've had the sticky hard to move needle issue occur a few more times and (for me) it always seems to be the trigger isn't seated on the air valve plunger tip or the back lever is not properly in place. Sounds like you take your brush apart a lot keeping it clean and are well practiced, but the .33 is causing issues, while the .5 is not. Your theory on the .33 needle being bad / wrong for the airbrush may be right.
Good luck with the needle replacement. Amazon customer service and returns processing are excellent. My very first Patriot 105 had a cross-threaded air supply connection and I got it replaced with no problem.
