I'm just starting out. I recently acquired a small compressor with an attached 3 liter tank. It works flawlessly so for. A good deal I think at $130. I replaced the 1.5" 0-100psi gauge with a 2.5" 0-30 psi gauge for much better resolution. So much easer to set and exact psi. I have a new Badger Sotar 20/20 and 2 new Iwata Eclipse HP-CS's. So far, I really like the Iwata's. At this point, I can get as fine a line with the HP-CS as I can with the Sotar 20/20. I do like the way the Sotar feels in my hand, and it's lighter. But I think I would have been fine without the Sotar, as the Iwata CS is so versatile. I haven't done anything practical with my new brushes other than to familiarize myself with the components, learn how to pull them apart and clean them and practice the basic techniques like dots and lines of various sizes, shading, daggers etc.. I suppose that qualifies as something practical, come to think of it. So far, I'm having the time of my life and want to continue to learn. I'm into motorcycles, hang gliders, N scale railroad themed dioramas, guitars and my girlfriend. Yep, that leaves no time for TV. Thanks for taking the time to read this. I'm excited to continue my paintbrushing (is that a real word?)education!

Welcome from New Zealand, looks like you are off to a good start. Have you seen the exercises on airbrushtutor website?

Welcome from the UK. Sounds like you have a great set to start with. The HP-CS is often the suggested beginner brush because it’ll still be useful when you’re not a beginner anymore.

You know me so well Herb... but geez you'd need a Custom Micron and an electron microscope to paint one!

Eh, after my girlfriend squished all my Modell RR stuff I don't think I'll be buying any more.

Welcome to the forum, theres a great deal of experience and talent here. Don't be scared to ask any questions you may have. There is a search function so have a look and if you cant find an answer then just ask.
