Question about Airbrush

Well I've done it...…………….
Yes I laid paint on some paper I did explode I didn't redecorate the Kitchen. I did thin the paint out as I needed to see how fine and transparent I could go but now I have a question after washing the gun with first water, gun cleaner then putting paint in the gun I did seen some colour with just air on the trigger.
What have I done wrong I suspect a seal may be leaking but what do I know I'm just a beginner

My lines do travel down hill, dots aren't to bad having some tea and then I will do some more lines and shading as that is what I need to practice for the first stage of my Tiger I think.

All you've done is stop the air before stopping the paint, nothing wrong there, just try to remember when you are doing your lines to keep the air on while you work, when you want to stop, stop your paint first then stop your air, just keep telling yourself that so you will end up doing it automatically without having to think about it, this is one of the many little newbie things you will quickly overcome.

thank you malky I did think I had put the Airbrush back together wrong or a seal was faulty as I've have this Airbrush in the garage for about 5 years lol

No problem, when you clean your brush at the end of each session clean it two or three times, we all do that just be sure that there is nothing left inside the nozzle that could dry up overnight and clog the brush, its amazing what can come out of a nozzle after what we think is a good clean.

Do you mean you get paint with just air, after you've cleaned it, before you painted anything, like anytime you press just air?
If thats the case the needle isnt seating. Usual causes ,in order of likelyhood
1. Its not quite clean
2.The spring adjustment is too loose (new brushes seal is a bit tight til its wore in a little if it was never used much)
3. Worst case scenario is if you got very hamfisted and shoved the needle back in too hard and split your nozzle.

also, personally i usually tighten the needle chuck first then give the spring adjustment an 1/8th or quarter turn in to make sure there is some positive pressure holding the needle shut, just makes it less sensitive to little debris in the nozzle holding it open.

Hi James,

I literally break down my airbrush needle head trigger chuck and soak my brush in acetone for a few then rinse. I use an older need to scrape out inside the tip and use a fine stainless steel wool to lightly go over my good needle. I also use that old needle to scrape out any dried paint in the journals or holes for airflow behind the head assembly ( Iwata and Vega 2000). I blast acetone and clean hot water through my airbrush nearly each time I change color as well. I do use a spray gun lubricant occasionally sparingly just o add a film helps with keeping water based paint from adhering to the needle and it still dries up at the nozzle nature of the beast....LOL
