Hi everyone, and greetings from Wellington, New Zealand, where the only thing stopping the paint from blowing out of our cups and all the way down to Antarctica is stuffing the tops with spare hobbits and leftover clone troopers!

I'm pretty new to painting in general, although I've been doing digital art since sometime in the murky 1990s - my tools of choice are GIMP, InkScape, 3DSMax and Google Sketchup. I'm not very good, but that hasn't stopped me so far ;) I used to dabble in watercolours in my teens before computers took over.

I'm a software developer by way of a day job, doing boring Java system apps for a government department. By night, I sometimes dabble in PHP and C++. I have two notable bits of software in the public domain, an app for managing Magic: The Gathering collections, and a VST plugin for using a Guitar Hero controller as a MIDI instrument. I also play D&D sporadically, bake occasionally, read voraciously, collect vinyl records, and generally give my poor wife cause for a permanent eye-roll ;)

I've recently decided to get into airbrushing, mostly as a way to paint model kits, but I also want to see if I can carry my meagre digital art skills over to paper. I've got a Badger 200NH for flat coating, and a Badger 105 Patriot for detail work, as well as a cheap no-name knockoff of the Badger 350 that I picked up to spray stuff that I don't want to risk in the main brushes (one clean, and it's already started to melt - cheap doesn't begin to cover it!).

My favourite artists are Chris Foss, Roger Dean and Phil Travers. Old sci-fi / fantasy book and album covers give me the shivers. I have no hope of doing anything even remotely comparable, but I can dream :)

Welcome to the forum from China! It's nice to see more and more people shifting from digital to the real world (of airbrushing). Me too am a big fan of 70s sci-fi art. Looking forward to seeing your work!

Welcome to the forum, Just had a look at my "Yes" albums for a bit of Roger Dean nostalgia. I'm sure with practise you would be able to pull one of his pictures off. Your in the right place to develop your ab skills and if you get into trouble we have lots of very experienced and skilled artists here who can give advice and steer you the right way. Enjoy your stay.

Ah, that reminds me of what to listen twhen firing up my compressor this evening. Some Roundabout to the sweet sound of airbrushing.

Welcome aboard from the US! Yet another fan of Yes, I guess ;) Really liked their cover art as a kid. Got rid of my LPs years ago though :(
