Airbrush tutor Leopard

That's the paper version No.4 , my link is G4 which is board, the postage in your link is because its coming from abroad, there are plenty of suppliers of the board in the UK so you'll only pay UK post.

Would you please give me some more links please Malky.

I've started painting with my new Mr Hobby brush I'm blown away by how smoth it is also how fine on a 0.3 and how shaky my hand is. I must admit the sharp angle the main air line shaft is that taking some getting used to, i have to put my ring finger to the back of the main handle to stop me choking it

If you scroll down and click on any of the links on this Google page which is what comes up after typing just "Schoelershammer 4G board".

There are actually three types of this medium used for fine art/illustration, the 4G board which I linked you to, a 4G paper which is exactly the same as the board but around 200 g/m and then is the No.4 paper in a pad version which is the one in your Amazon link, I think @Ronald art can tell you better how well the 4G paper version works, I've only ever tried the 4G board and the No.4 pad versions.

the shoellershammer 4 and 6 G paper version both are perfect for airbrush portrait art people or animal I must how ever say that there have been problems with the 4G production and it has been off the market for a wile and my local art shop stopped selling it but you can still order it online

It seems to be available in abundance here in the UK, I've found old original stock but another company has taken over production of it too as highlighted here.

Well more board bought and some stencils and two spare needles
I've been practicing mostly today and making a bottle holder I will be cutting it out tomorrow while I'm waiting for first of two orders for board.

Morning all

Good lesson for today is heed the advice of others.

Finding a medium that is suitable for Airbrushing. Now I’m tight but I have bought Hot press illustration board and no4 airbrushing board plus I’m waiting for some sand paper from amazon but I’ve just looked at the expected delivery date which is the middle of August.

Last week I airbrush on Photo paper but I didn’t like the affect erasing left on the paper also the high gloss was off putting, So after my practice I this medium ended up in the bin and never to be repeated. Well this morning 5 AM yep I got up early as I knew it would be cooler so no harm done. In my wisdom I thought I would try the Bristol Paper I have as this feels so so smooth.

While this board is really smooth and the airbrush paint golden high flow acylic looks really good on this paper you can’t be rubbed out so now it’s a waiting game for the postman to deliver Schoellershammer G4 Thick Illustration Board.

Another lesson today is I’ve learnt is, it really does make a difference to have the easel set to a descent angle. I’ve also learned that having the brush set to minimal air and a small needle lock affects the tip dry quite a lot but I really needed to find this out for myself. If my Schoellershammer G4 Thick Illustration Board arrives today I shall Trace the leopard on to it. However, if it’s not here by 5pm then I shall nip out and find some sandpaper that is suitable for the clayboad I’ve made.

So this is the practice piece I’ve do this morning and it will be going in the bin but I did enjoy myself as by the end of two hours I could see the improvements in airbrushing in general.

At least you're learning and happy doing it, if I got to the stage you are at now at with your leopard practice piece and had to give up I would be livid, if I managed to finish it and then pull your wonderful tape job off of it I have a feeling I would be even more livid.

I assume you're waiting for sandpaper to prepare your clay board, I'm 99.9% sure that once you get to paint something on your clay board you won't want anything else, the G4 board and the No.4 paper are pretty cool and easier for subtraction methods than most other substrates but they definitely wont beat clay board or even gesso board, you can your sandpaper at any DIY store, although some of superfine sandpaper can only be found at more specialist places like car body repair shops and their suppliers.

Amazon can be a huge problem with some orders, a lot of stuff comes directly from the country of origin and take weeks and weeks to get to, you need to check the sellers details and choose only those that are based in the UK or in the closest countries in EU.

would painting a base coat change this paper say spray it white before you start tracing it ??????????? I may have a little play but not yet I have ordered more sand paper hopeful that it would arrive tomorrow I'm getting so impatient now so so impatient

Why are you so eager to erase when you didn't manage to use your airbrush correctly yet? when we start Airbrushing we spent a lot of money in brushes, paints and papers cause we see others people work and think that the tools made the job (believe me I was there!!!), and the truth is that the hand did it, erasing is a technic but it is not the only one, and for sure is not the first you have to learn, you can paint a lot and make beautiful paintings without it. take a look at Www.jayfergusonart.com he paint on bristol board a HP-C+ with 0,3 nozzle, 50psi and liquitex inks, @AndreZA did an excellent job in a photocopy paper a while back (just to shows us that can be done), and so on!! Try to master the basic technics first with what you have now, believe me, it will make your learning curve a lot easiest, cheaper and happier too.

@MarcosD isn't saying you shouldn't be learning erase and scratch techniques, he means the same as I pointed out a little while ago when you first came on that control of the airbrush is the first thing we all learn when starting out, erasing and any other techniques are fine when you can actually spray with your airbrush and hit the target you're aiming for without having to think too much about it, erasing and scratch, stencilling, using, water colour pencils and anything else we employ are all simply aids we use to make the job easier or even achieve a particular effect, but it is wrong to rely too much on any of the techniques we use.

Priming paper can be done, some here apply a coat of varnish to No.4 paper to make easier to erase or behave more like other substrates that might be easier to use, but doing this means you no longer have the substrate you started with, your real substrate becomes your primer or Gesso or whatever else you use as a base so you would save loads of money priming the box that comes free with your corn flakes, so when you get to priming board for airbrushing and art you end up back at your clay board, my point about the sandpaper is that you could if you felt like it just pop to the shops and buy it and then you have it right now rather than order online and have to wait for it, I only order stuff online I can't get locally, and most of what I want or need I want or need now, if I was you I would just invest all of my time into getting that clay board prepared, I'm unfit to work so I have very little disposable income which means I have to be careful what I buy and when, I couldn't buy a shed load of different substrates just to find out they might be useless for what I want to do, I'll be using clay board for the first time today when I start my paint pal, only because the reviews all suggest it's even better than gessoed board which was previously my substrate of choice and also cheap to make for myself.

Because before you can run you need to start to walk (Airbrush control, paint reduction, etc), but you have to do what you want to do and that is what matters, I was just telling you my experience. All the DVDs you can get!! S. Driscoll DVDs and Cory are the ones that like me most. Remember, a 4 day course wont make you a great airbrusher( of course it will help), it will make you looks like one, practice and patience is what will make you a great one! I need a lot of those!!

I under stand what you are both-all are telling me however believe it or not I'm enjoying myself but most importantly I am Learning the practice piece above was just that after my first mistake on the practice board and I couldn't erase it I just started experimenting with the paint and air flow of which I learnt a lot about my eye hand coordination and about the paint. I didn't even wear my glasses as I'm waiting for my new prescription (I'm Blind as a bat) but I am really just waiting for sand paper you can't buy anything from 230 grit on wards and wet 'n' dry is only sold at 600 grit at my local hard wear shop. So you see I have to use Amazon.
I'm also home bound as I have a pacemaker also banded from driving for two year due to the fact that I keep passing (blacking) out it don't get any better as last week I was diagnosed with a big mass in my neck fingers are crossed that it's not cancer I'm waiting again for a phone call from the hospital.

I'm enjoying my self and my journey

Fun is what it's all about James, we want you to succeed and we also hope you don't hit the moments when it's not fun, that does happen to just about all of us, I have actually given it all up several times, mostly due to the wrong substrates and paints, I haven't long started back at it and this time I'm sticking to all the materials that worked for me in the past.

Car body repair garages use a few finer grades of wet & dry, if there is one near you I can guarantee they would be happy to sell you a couple of sheets, maybe even just give it to you.

Sorry to hear of your health problems, I hope they get you sorted out, it all sounds far more serious than what's going on with me, after a few doctors appointment and a load of tests I'm hopeful that at least some of my issues will be lessened over the next few weeks.

This has been a five year slog with doctors and hospitals that will no listen to me and my wife the last two years have been hell.

I lived in Holland for 18+ years and doctors there didn't seem to care, people I knew with the same problems as myself got treatment or operations but to the professionals there I was just foreign muck ad all I got was the wrong tablets, I came back home to Scotland last year and was lucky enough to register with a great doctor who not only does listen but acts quickly to what she finds, among other things I was diagnosed in Holland as having blood clots in my legs but at home I've been told there are no clots, instead after some simple tests it was found to be type 2 diabetes, I'm confident I'll get a lot of relief when treatment actually starts, I have another couple of minor tests and then a clinic appointments to discuss what treatment if any I need, but I already know some simple changes to my diet will help me keep it under control, although it's not this that keeps me out of work, other problems are the reason, mainly four damaged vertebrae at the base of my spine causing permanent nerve pinching which on bad days means I can hardly walk but I've had that for years a and have just got used to that.

If your doctors aren't helping or won't listen you are entitled to complain and maybe change your doctor.
