Hi, I'm hoping someone can help me.

My partner works in a car body shop and has expressed that's he'd like to start air brushing designs onto cars at home. I wanted to surprise him for his birthday with an airbrushing kit to get him started. Only trouble is I don't know what's good and what's not good. I've looked on places like Amazon, eBay, and a few airbrushing sites, they all have mixed reviews and a lot of information I don't understand, so not sure whats best to get him.

If someone can help me I'd appreciate it very much.

    Thank you in advance

    Kathy

    HI @Kathy2918
what part of the world do you live in, we could suggest suppliers local to you.

tip 1: don't buy a 'kit'...... I'm not suggesting you buy a top end brush, but generally the brushes supplied with the 'kit' are rubbish.

What is your budget, what restrictions do you have as far as noise at home eg: do you have a shed that he will be working from / close neighbours..
if he already has an air compressor at home that he uses, then that's one thing you don't have to purchase and your budget can go into the brush, airbrush paints, hoses, filters etc etc

Hello Kathy!! Indeed more info is needed, location and such...and as far as a kit, they kinda suck...so best to avoid them if at all possible.

We live in south east England, in Kent, in a little village, we do have neighbors but not, the houses are not joined but they still kinda close so would need something quiet. We have a garage that he will doing all this in. He doesn't have an air compressor, which is why I thought a kit would be good. But if it would be better to go to local suppliers I'll have a look around thank you so much for the tip . I would of hated to have got him one and it not be very good. I'd say my maximum budget would be £300 atm.

Thanks for the additional info. Andre has given you good advice. If you have any other questions feel free to ask. Your next decision will be paint.
I originated from Kent - sittingbourne to be exact. Came out to Australia as a 9yo :)

So this will be good for him to start out? If he wanted to upgrade parts, could he?
If I bought the compressor on its own, what one would you recommend? Thank you so much!

Paint, I haven't thought about the paint lol, you have any recommendations?
Sittingbourne, I know quiet well, it's close to where I'm originally from -Canterbury. Nice! The plan is to come out to Australia in the next couple years.

The airbrush will last him for a long time. Nothing to upgrade there. I'm sure being an autobody repair guy he knows what to get when he outgrows that one. That same place has Bambi compressors. Extremely quiet but a bit pricey.

Hi Kathy, paint, make sure it is airbrush specific paint and probably water based for a start. Com-art or golden high flow would be a couple to consider.

Everything airbrush are good helpful people. Unfortunately they stopped carrying the stock I use, but when I did found them very good, with fast delivery and good service.
