Not done a helmet before so was glad that this first attempt was relatively simple, i,e no complicated design to mask off , just a portrait of the customers dog.

Customer wanted the portrait on the top of the helmet as he is a MotoGp racer and when tucked up in the racing position all you see is the top of his helmet..

His dog always goes to race meetings as his good luck mascot.

Helmet was supplied to me straight out of the box, so all I did was rub down the existing clear with 800 grit to remove the shine. Not painted on a curved surface before and could figure out how to transfer ref onto a curved surface so ended up sketching out the reference by hand .

Just about ready for clear, just needs touching up here and there..

Overall not a bad experience will certainly have a go at another helmet should the opportunity arise :)

Came out nicely! Some of the folds give the dog an odd look at first!

Looks great. Modern helmets are the worst, too many weird shapes, vents and unecessary bits stuck on. I find it easier to draw the design on direct also, too easy to get distortion. Looks like helmets can be added to the list of Bean triumphs. :)

I usually protect my artwork before sending off to clear with Ag2050 , but this time I thought I would try out the 2K in a can so I could be super confident no damage would occur before getting to the clear coat guy. I bought a 400ml can of spraymax 2K, after initial shake you have to press an adapter into the base which breaks the internal harder container, another 2 min shake and away you go..

The spray nozzle was one of thew best I have come across for a rattle can , the spread was very even and fine, the 2K flowed very very nicely , after an initial dust coat , I put down another 2 coats . As this is going for a proper clear coat job I haven't bothered sanding back and polishing but still looks pretty good as is..

Picture looks a bit strange as it seems to be very awkward getting a good picture of a round object, seems to be slightly distorted..
