It is not that bad. They just got something in their head and don't want to move from it. the same as the whole art movement does not see airbrushing as art.

Most times the ones that state they did something free hand, it is to make themselves sound good. I recently saw an image of an american flag and the artist stated he did it all free hand. There was no way he did the stars free hand. They were all identical. A stencil was used.
To me, free hand means no stencils were used.....

Which is genuinely bizarre and warped view of art they have!

I go down to Art Basel in Miami sometimes, not to impressed with what some of the eggheads consider "art"

    I'm more lowbrow, whatever works:ninja:

I will use whatever I need to produce a piece. Sometimes I get lazy and don't want to take the time. I have only used actual frisket back when I started but got away from it because of re alignment problems and then having to go back in and touch things up. I do have freehand shield and have even used paper towel or torn paper to help create forehead wrinkles. Everything depends on what your trying to.

As for airbrushing not being art, the heck with them. I have been battling that since 1978 when I picked up my first airbrush. I will use the airbrush, paint brush, pastels, colored pencils, toothpicks, toothbrush or anything else if I can make a painting with it. And if no one wants to buy it then who cares. I will just be the cliché (starving artist). In fact I am hungry right now.
