Hey everyone just a short introduction. My name is Ed and was wanting to get back I to pinstriping. I tried pinstriping about 10 years ago when my vocational school teacher gave me a single mack brush and a half used can of black one shot. I was big into sports and never had much free time or money to practice. After high school I worked alot and started a family so again no time or money.

I now have a stable job and time and resources to start striping. My biggest question now is what is a good paint and brush to start with. I had always heard about 1 shot and mack because that was the staple products but now that I am researching into it I see more companies such as custom shop http://www.tcpglobal.com/s.nl/it.A/id.218796/.f#.V_MO4HMpDqA

What is everyone's opinions? I am not looking to do this for a living or anything but more for a hobby and maybe for friends and family if I can any good at it

    Sincerely Ed

Hi Ed welcome to the forum, One shot is still probably the most popular paint although HOK do a good striping paint too and it can be cleared over unlike one shot. You can use regular household oil based paint for wood, it should work pretty well. i have some here in the uk. The water based stuff doesnt flow right off the brush so i would avoid that.
Brushes, you are still good with the mac but i also like the Steve Kafka line of brushes especially the scroll liners. You can still pull a great pinstripe but can also do the scrolling stuff with ease too. I hope that helps a bit. I'm more into airbrush than striping. Im sure there are others here that can help a little more.

i find that the "King 13" series are fantastic and work perfectly for me mate, as for paint we use the one shot enamels all the way mate!

Don't you have to add an additive to One Shot to clear over it? That's been my (very limited admittedly lol) experience.

I like the Kafka brushes too, especially for scroll work.

yeah we put abit of 2k hardener into the mix which slows the initial drying process but helps seal it off wait atleast 24 hrs and clear ( if you run reducer/thinners) in your clear dont use any in the first coat and only use sparingly for the others and you should be fine.. :)

I've edited the title from 'stripping' to 'pinstriping'.......... I was expecting an announcement that involved poles and dancing
