    Hi Guys and Gals,

I am starting a new project for a client. I cleaned, sanded, cleaned again and prepped the trunk with auto air sealer black. Sketched out my idea, and went over it with my client. I then transferred only the main features onto the masking, setting it up to paint a quick background.

First I painted the moon and added texture to it. Played a bit going back and forth with the white and black and shade work. The picture doesn't capture the cool textures in there though, sorry. Then I proceeded with adding the background cemetery and fog. This is just the background to set up the mood and place of the mural. No detail is really needed here.

Its just plain ole transfer mask. It works beautifully, cuts nice with a sharp blade and peels off with no residue. I highly recommend it. :)

Thanks.. probably another marathon. LOL There's going to be a lot of tiny detail in this one so I have to take it slow.

Thanks everyone. My plans to work on this today were spoiled. We had to take my mother-in-law to the emergency room this morning, which made for a very long day. Anyway, she has been admitted and we have to wait to see if her problem resolves on its own or it may need surgery. I'm hoping it will fix itself. It was good that we took her in because her condition could be life threatening. So, sorry no progress today. :(

(edit - I think we posted at the same time. Sorry to hear abut your mother in law - hope she has a speedy reovery).

and what a mood that background set! Off to a great start.

I would love to see the sketch you presented to the client. How detailed was it?

My sketch was only detailed as to the grim reaper since he is the focal point of the whole mural. I really wanted to be sure that he was correct before I started the project myself. Then, I simply rough sketched out the placement of the tree, what I was going to do with a paw print that they wanted incorporated into it and some of the larger tomb stones. My client is familiar with my work and all I had to do was explain what I was thinking. Asked him what he would like to see in his mural and then the rest is off the cuff. The background was created as I went and probably only took me an hour to actually paint up as it didn't need any detail. I probably spent more time doing the moon than anything else. My client has seen the pictures and is already excited and happy with it.

I will be adding many many skulls to this so sketching it out would have taken way too long. This is going to take a while to paint. Thanks for asking.
