i bought this HP-B from a private party that claimed it was never used. I’ve taken it apart and there are zero traces of any kind of paint anywhere so it’s believable. Anyway, I’ve looked everywhere trying to find this gun but it looks different than any of the other HP-B’s or B pluses. It has an extra opening in the rear instead of the knob. Is this just an older model or what? I’m fairly new to the airbrush game so if this is a newb question I apologize lol

Right question and it's your answer:) It's an older model and was produced for some time. Great thing for the collection! And for work also if you like B models.

Ok awesome thank you for the reply! If airbrushes are anything like cars the older the better! Haha my next question is are the parts from the newer model interchangeable? Or am I going to have a hard time finding parts if something goes south?

Yes and no , Like cars with disc brakes on the newer models vs drum brake on the older ones, The newer airbrush pretty much all come with the teflon needle bearing vs the old rubber one , But that is pretty much the only thing to check if you plan on using urethane paints or any solvents .
Now be a good lad and pop over to the Introduction section and introduce yourself.
you will find that here http://www.airbrushforum.org/introductions/

I’ll be sure to jump over there! Thank you for the info! Will parts from the new model fit mine?

NO! Parts from the newer model will NOT fit you brush! It is an older model - but no that old. That is a date code on the side, the "YA". I can't find the chart right now, but suspect it is a 90's date. The new version is listed as the HP-B+ or HP-B Plus. The nozzle thread is different, and will not fit your brush. There are a few other parts that are also different, but they will actually fit anyway. When you need to order parts, just make sure that you are looking at a parts list for just the High Performance or HP (A,B or SB) and the the High Performance Plus, or HP-Plus (also A, B, and SB).

I worked it out as a Jan 1978 model or it will be the Jan 2020 model. If it is the 1978 model you will have to get the regular HP and not HP+ (HPP) parts.

They made that backend back in the mid to late 90s. I had bought a HP-BCH2 back then that had the same backend. It was for quick flushing of the nozzle whiteout removal of the back. It was created with t-shirt artists in mind so when workin high production to save time when tip dry was clogging the nozzle. From a conversation with Iwata when I bought my used B they said the needle and nozzle for that brush has never changed.
