Anyone who has had to paint metal knows that the first step is to strip off the old paint, or at least cover it with primer so that the new coat will adhere properly. For parts that need to be stripped down to the metal surface, etching helps new paint stay on instead of peel off when dried. Self-etching primer combines the two-step process of etching and primer into one chemical.

Sorry but I just copied and pasted it form the web,
Was not trying to sound like an ass. But after re-reading it I guess I did. Any way it has a mild acid etcher mixed with primer so you get a better bond between metal and paints. Plus side if you are doing a car the etching primer goes on after all the body work is done this allows for a equal binding surface for the base and clear coat to bind it.
Dupli color makes the one I use , One it is affordable and two I have never had any problems with it.
Also I have not notice a difference between using a rattle can of it or buying a pint of it and running it through the spray gun. Both pretty much goes on smooth , On small things like this mail box I will just let it set a couple of days to cure 100%. But on cars I use a buddies paint booth.
Again sorry if I sounded a like an ass.,Nothing but love for ya Bro!

Yes sir 4H is big where I live here, Her grand kids show Rabbits , Pigs , Goats, and Cattle , But She raises Rabbit all the time .
She is also trying to talk them into join FFA (Future Farmer of America ) (for those folks who may not know what that stands for) But that is mainly a Highschool age club so they still have a couple of years.
The front is going to be wood grain , Nails and even hammer marks , Than over the top of that a big Pink Ribbon (She is also a breast cancer survivor )
The other big side she said her husband could pick so it will be a 1930's steel wheel tractor (Either an Allis or a Massey-Harris)
Was planning on doing a deers head on the back But than you did yours and did not want to be a copycat...LOL Still thinking on the rear He loves Hunting,Fishing and Tractors so I will come up with something.
At any rate they offered me 200.00 to paint it so I am getting paid to practice:D
