    Hi everyone,

I am a new memeber and have just ordered the KMS AS186 airbrush kit. Now i have never used an airbrush but wanted to help my wife with her wooded crafts. Instead of sitting for hours hand painting I started to use spray paint which was alot quicker, better finish but alot more expensive.

My question to you is can you use everyday house paint ie delux / crown etc from places like B and Q. home base etc ?

Water based matt finish paints and reduce with water ?
If not what paints should i be looking to use ?
The spray paint i am using is enamel car spray.

Thanks so much in advance for any help provided.

the short answer is no you cant use normal house hold paint in a airbrush, you need paint that is made for airbrush use

there are many airbrush paint brands out there , most common one is createx , personally I dont like that brand but most of airbrush artists on this forum do like it
I like to use Etac private Stock for hard surface like wood

You can use Valejo, revel or model craft paints which might be better suited to what you want to do, these brands all have waterbased and enamel versions but make sure the one you choose also states that it can be used with airbrushes as these brands also all have heavy pigmented paints for brush use and lesser heavy pigmented for airbrush or brush, you can find them at any decent model shops.

Another alternative would be to by some Golden airbrush medium which allows you convert most other Golden products for airbrush use, this will give your colours some transparency so to reach full opacity you me need several coats, you'll find Golden products at the bigger high street art stores.

No its not a model but the paints are better suited for what you want.

    What size are you painting?

If you use a paint that is solvent based (EG anything other than water based) make sure you have Teflon seals (PTFE) in the brush.

Well Stu where do you live ?
Sometimes that plays a part in what airbrush ready paint may be in your area locally and not have to do an internet order.
Wicked Airbrush paint made by Createx will work on wood and pretty much any surface you want to paint on.

    Challenge FAIL lol

    Now........ back on topic......

Createx paint is good for 90% of surfaces..... Standard createx is great for fabric not so good at small nozzle fine artwork, that's where the rest of the range excels.
