Painting on a black background

I have some artwork I want to airbrush, it has a black background. I got some black art paper, but how do I get color on it?

I found that the paper seems to absorb the paint, I was thinking of an acrylic sealer coat before I start.

Any advice?

Thanks

I do a white under painting first, then go in with colour. If the white soaks in you either need a better surface, or seal it somehow.

I would approach just the same as doing a t-shirt, so as squishy says, paint the whole thing in while first building up the layers until you get 'white' enough and then glaze with transparent colours.
