Very nice! Umm, I always thought pastels were a kind of paint? This is the board you're painting on?

He had just licked his nose before I shot the photo. I was wondering if I had successfully created that effect. Thanks for noticing.

Pastel is the pure pigment with no liquid binder so it give much richer color results. It comes as powder, stick, pencil, hard or soft and also in a oil stick. They have to be matted and framed special so that the pastel doesn't get smudged. You can use a fixative over the finished piece, but it affects the richness of the pastel color and tends to make it look grainy. This is only my third attempt.

Ha ha it is a piece of Pastelmat Paper taped to the board. I wasn't sure what you were asking either so don't feel bad. I am kind of slow sometimes lol.

Thanks for the explanation about pastels- I didn't realize they had special requirements. Amazing work too.

Your welcome. It is just the framing. If properly cared for they are supposed to last longer than any other medium. Also they should not be hung in direct sunlight even though the pigment is light fast and UV resistant. This is only my third piece and I have much to learn. But don't worry, I don't plan on leaving airbrush.

This piece reminds me of a charcoal painting my brother's gf did of our Black Lab. She was pretty upset when I asked her how she did that "to the photograph" lol. I think there is still a dent in my jaw from where it hit the floor after realizing she did that by hand!
