Clean the paper ? just remove the rubber rubbish, stay away from Carbon paper. Graphite on the back of spare paper is ok, but carbon paper will just mess everything up :)
I clean yupo with Iso before i paint on it, but I'm waiting to try some Terraslate, No australian supplier that i've found so far, but I'm waiting on a response to an email that i sent them.

You might try using liquid dish soap in the sink with water and put the terraslate in it. Rub with your finger and see if the carbon will just come off. Terraslate is water proof. I tried this the other night with something I had painted a few weeks back that I didn't like. The paint and graphite came right off. Don't use alcohol to clean it. It will take the coating off that is on the paper. Use Windex w/o ammonia to clean finger prints.

Sorry I meant graphite paper. But when I made my trace I used a pencil which may have been a mistake. I’ll try the soap and water or better yet just use another sheet.....lol. The sheet I used was 9x 12 I think. I may find a way to enlarge the reference pic and try to go on a bigger piece of terraslate

Had an hour to myself so started erasing my reference lines down a bit. Also decided to erase them more for each line I was going to do..I found that this helped me slow down. Got just the basic outline done but my main goal was to NOT GO SO DARK! Hope I accomplished that.

I can see i'm going to have to have a go at this one........ I've been with the thread since the beginning, but i cant resist a good Dragon.

My only comment so far, and i'm not picking on anyone, but why are you trying to make it look like a pencil sketch ? I know the reference is one, but you're not using a pencil, and trying to reproduce pencil thin lines when starting is a pain.

Lets see some AIRBRUSHED Dragons. Try using some shields to help create the edges rather than trying to outline with the airbrush.

You stole my approach :D. I was thinking of approaching this with a Stencil and Shields too. I thought that it was going to help with practicing fine lines as well as shading , hence the approach. But I was definitely going to bottle that and go with shields lol

@Joe T you are spot on with your first layer and I agree with JackEb try to make it look like it is airbrushed and not a pencil sketch after all Malky showed it is much easier to use the airbrush for this ref than a pencil

side note : I had to read the whole thread back and I see I promised to do a advanced one so I will start looking for a good ref possibly a dragon but I am not sure yet ;)

Here is my practice one. Yes its a little dark. Ok alot dark but i had to cover the colored pencil. The one im doing for real wont be that dark. Just trying to get my feel back for the brush. This was done with a badger spirit side feed.

@Rick Martin the photo is a little small for me to see all details but this was your test run and I think you did a good job on it and I look forward to see what you can do when you do it "for real"

Yes this was a test run to get familiar with the brush again. I might play with it a little more.

never give up on a painting dude. Just put it to one side for later and doodle on something different. You'll see it different another day.

@Rick Martin , you claim rusty, but that looks like a pretty darn good start to me too. Good to have you back slinging some paint.

It will look better on paper i can erase on and put more detail in it. With the paper im using in the picture you better have your values right the first time. Theres no erasing on this one.
