Shadows on black background

Hi.

If I have a black background, paints the monster logo, I can't shade it to make it "float" with black, how should I do to make the logo "lift" from the base?

Protect the area from overspray in the first instance. Nothing to stop you spraying black where the shadow would be, perhaps add a little blue to give the shadow a "different" black (so make a weak paynes grey) than the actual background.

Yes, add blue or purple to the black. Or make the background about 95% black and then normal black will show up.
