I'm not familiar with the testor paint, but normally when you added the white you limited how transparent you could make it. if the testors is an opaque then you will struggle to make it behave more transparent regardless of adding more reducer/thinner.
everything you do is worthwhile, You will do better with the shiny side, in order to erase / scratch you need the paint to sit on the surface, not in it, (the more porous the surface the less you will be able to use the erasers.) Erasing isn't the be all and end all of getting detail but it helps a lot, especially in the early stages when most struggle with detail.

I did another lightning, this on a 22x18 white board. non shiny side. my camera is making the left side look funny, in person the color and paper look the same through out ,,,
I had a lot more fun with this one, with the exception of the colors I am using. . the wicked black is awesome but the Testors colors are nasty.
I count down the days to ordering the eclipse and wicked paints, reducer and a couple other parts...
5 days to place the order, and prob 3 days to deliver.... soon.

if you replaced the blue with orange/red/yellow it would look like lava under cracked earth. :D

Some of the forks aren't a true representation of lightening, but a good google reference for mapping it out will make all the difference.

Why does every piece of constructive critisism sound like you're being super picky / critical ??

I struggled with trying to get 'glow' to look like glow and not overspray . . .
