Are you using the generic brush ? That could be half your problem. My first was a generic, lasted 6 months before it started mucking about.

What you are painting is irrelevant, not all brushes are created equal. As strange as it sounds you will get on better with a cheapy once you’ve had a ‘decent brush’ and learn how airbrush should behave - consistently, what signs to look for when the brush is starting to clog, and again the symptoms will be consistent.

Ultimately the brush you next buy should be bombproof while you’re learning.
The Iwata Eclipse HP-C is a tried and true workhorse.

I’ll let the lure makers advise what brush they’ve found works for them.

On the upside if you are declaring an income from your rods & lures then this would come under ‘tool of trade’ and become a tax deduction, as would your paints & spare parts, compressor etc.

Check that the nozzle is seated correctly and the head is secure. Make sure there is slight tension on the needle when inserting it through the packing bearing. Make sure the chuck nut in the back end of the needle and tension spring is tight and adjusted correctly. If it sprayed before and suddenly doesn’t after a cleaning the something is not put back together correctly.
