So I have been working on this piece since before Christmas. I had to put it on hold for a bit for a couple reasons. So hopefully I'll have all the touch ups done this weekend and clear coated during the week. I ghosted a couple of safety placards on the side and I'm hoping they'll show up better once clear coated.

Hell yeah Ricky! That's bad ass! I'm sure the clear will help the placards pop more. Should be good ghost. I like it!

Very fine work - looks great. The skull detail is really good. Those side labels are very subtle, maybe a very light yellow...?

I gave the entire surface a quick dry sanding with a 400 grit wet/dry sand paper. Then hit it with White Autobourne and wait 24hrs. I sand again with 400 grit and wipe off any dust with a small amount of final wipe.

Thanks guys... I've been taking my time with this one. I still have to put blue reality flames in on the chin to balance the weight of the piece.

Thanks for the compliments.. The ghost effect was done with just black candy over the black pearl. The black pearl came out almost a dark gun metal because of the white Autobourne underneath... Unexpected and worked out in the end.

I really like it! I have added your "gun metal" color to my cheat sheets I keep handy, I keep saying one day I will find time to pick up the brush again!

I finished all the touch ups and added the "flames". I'm not completely happy with the outcome but she'll do. image.jpeg

I managed to get the clear coat on today and so far so good. There's a couple small imperfections in the clear coat (no solvent pop or runs... Hooray),but I'm confident that they will disappear when it's cut and polished. The ghosting of the placards turned out nice, but I'll have to lay off the candy a little next time. Overall I'm very happy what I've got so far and a couple of lessons learned along the way. In another 7 days I'll drop the last of the pics when it's cut and polished. Thanks again for checking out this thread.

Where did you use the Candy Black Inwas interested in trying it.

Regarding solvent pop, Autoborne Transparent overtop of your work should completely eliminate it as it's compatible with solvents. I haven't tried it yet but will be on a goalie mask I saw a guy on YT do it with metalwork and said it protects the createx from solvent clears.

    And of course, nicely done!

The black candy was used over the black pearl which created a gem appearance. The black candy was then also used to make the skulls. By coming in with opaque white, then giving a wash of black candy to knock everything back. I did this several times to give it this appearance.

The solvent pop issue before was because I was laying my clear coat down to quickly and to heavily on the first coat.
I had thought about using the transparent Autobourne as a barrier protection, but after watching the video of Craig Fraser on the Createx site under the heading Candy2O True Fire 44 minutes in the technical video section. I have decided against it. In the video they explain that they painted a Porsche with a basecoat of Autobourne and a top coat of candy. They didn't like the colour and decided to go over it with Autobourne again. The underlying candy coat bled through the new coat of Autobourne. The candy coat was reactivates. In the same video they explain that using 0200 Wicked Transparent base will prevent this from happening. So I'm a little hesitant using the Transparent Autobourne this way. Though I may give it a shot still just to see for myself because you can sand Autobourne down to help combat cratering between coats.

Damn I wish I got that candy black now it looks waybless purple than their image and very useful for smoke effects

Mmm actually thats a good idea
Transparent or 4030 over candy then autoborne ontop of it to lay down a nice thick gloss coat(stuff i got from automotive shop guy said spray it on thick 2 passes no flash between and done) which would destroy normal waterbased

In the video did they do a tack coat with the autoborne over the candy though or put it on thick is also a possible issue.
