Mac-Valve Maestro!
Here are the two Holbein brushes I picked up recently along with the EFBEs. A Y3 Hohmi and a Y-300, both Dash variants. Overall condition is excellent. Needles and nozzles are perfect.
The Y-3 is a used brush, although very clean there was a trace if paint in the needle packing fibres and marks on the base of the nozzle from repeated removal.
Although the chrome on these brushes isn’t as nice as the likes of Iwata I was pleasantly surprised by how nice they look. I adore the pearl gold handles. They look more pearlescent in real life than in the photos.
The foam was absent from the Y-3 box. Probably rotted away, as there was tarnish on both brushes from foam rot which needed sorting. My wife’s EVA yoga block fixed the problem with the box.
The foam was still present in the Y-300 box, but was badly rotted, it smelled chemically and was crumbly to the touch. Some polyurethane foams break down and release adipic acid usually after a couple of decades.
My wife hid her second yoga block from me so the box is currently empty.
The brush itself is unused. I don’t usually go for siphon brushes but I’m pleased I did this time. It has a branded Holbein bottle, which seems to match the image on the box, though the brush does not, the one on the box looks more like a Badger to me, whereas the Y-300 looks very much Holbein’s unique design.
Holbeins don’t come up that often it seems but I’m still surprised they aren’t (seemingly) more sought after because they are interesting brushes, not one part is copied exactly from iwata, everything, even the chucking nut shape, is a little special, and apparently they spray nicely. I’ve not been able to try them out just yet. They sure look pretty though.
