Badger 100SG rescue operation

Air-Valve Autobot!
Hello,

By accident this happened to be my second Badger 100SG, which was part of a junker lot.
The only picture in the listing.

Incomplete and beaten up. But...

What the....??? The nozzle is jammed into the regulator. My theory is that it was so clogged it got stuck. The regulator was unscrewed and it yanked the nozzle out of the head. Then a needle push ensure the jamming was complete.

Dunked in lacquer thinner for literally less than 5 seconds and it came out.

Back home where you belong...
IMGP0049.jpg

A lot of care to bring it back to life.
Missing the needle chuck. In the meantime, an old style system was loaned from another junker. I'll eventually buy the correct current style needle chuck for it.

The case where this junker lot arrived says 100SGF which means this started life as a Fine setup. But the airbrush has a Medium setup. To me it doesn't make much sense to have a Medium or Large setups in these A cup brushes. May eventually change it to a FINE setup, or leave it M and use it with craft acrylics.

Everything went back together and I put some undiluted paint in it just to see if was sealed properly.

I think it is ready to get back on the road.

What do you think?

Thanks,
Ismael

Hello,

In order to get this brush going, I used an older style system because the needle chuck was missing.
The original parts were neglected and needed some TLC.

Got some parts from Merri Artist.
IMGP0160.jpg

Some Tender Loving Care.
IMGP0164.jpg

Not only it is back with its original parts, but I now have a spare old style system that is needed for certain vintage first gen 150P.
I lubricated the spring area and fiddled with it polishing the inside mating surfaces. For a stock parts Badger, this is as smooth a trigger as it will ever get, rivaling antifriction coated new triggers. Only an aftermarket softer spring may improve on it.

End of the story, right?

But wait, there is more! I noticed a weird air leak into the cup. Chased it for a few minutes but it was puzzling.
Long story short, I'm not Dave but I think this can be a problem... Don't you think?

lol
Remember this is the original head that had the nozzle yanked out. I suspect it was overtightened at some point and it was cracked. Hand tightening it and I noticed it gave a little more than expected.. Huh? Ohhh!!!
One of the several Badger 200s waiting to be rescued was decapitated and is now headless...
This one is again 100% operational.
Will offer it for sale to fund the never ending cycle of more parts and more junkers.

Thanks,
Ismael
