Hi guys, before Im starting my trial and error and wasting products, I have a questions.

Does anyone of you ever tried to clear coat with 1.8mm nozzle and it went good?

Just got my spray gun and I noticed that the seller sent me a gun with 1.8mm nozzle instead of 1.4mm by mistake, it took over a month for the shipping and I wanted to know if it possible to get good result with 1.8mm or should I send it back to him and get the right one (meaning waiting 2 month +/-)

Im using DeBeer 1-103 clear coat gloss and TROTON Diabolic clear coat with matt finish, for Automotive and helmets.

Also I have the Paasche Talon with 0.6mm nozzle and a fan cap, maybe it would do a better job?

Let me elaborate why I am asking this. People usually buy brand guns for clear coat and they use cheap chinese for primer. @SiRoxx , @Robbyrockett2 have experience with clear coating. SiRoxx I think using minigun for clear coating, Robby is using Photon-laser gun :D

Probably bunch of other guys here as well, I just don't have a clue.

    Photon-laser

Well, Im just a newbie and all of the equipment already cost to me around 700$
(the airbrush, compressor, some of Createx colours and the clears)
Im still hoping that I could get goot result with this cheap gun, but Im worried about the nozzle size.
I'll wait for their answer, thank you

Trust me , I feel your pain. I am still buying clear coat gun and it's already few months, from the day I decided I will buy it. This hobby is money hog... If I understood guys correctly, clear coating is kinda sensitive and if you have bad gun you can screw things very quickly. But I am really not the right man to give advices about clear coating :)

My Clear Coating experience is limited, but my guess is that a 1.8 nozzle might be a bit of a hose pipe for using on Helmets and smaller stuff. That’s said Husky is right and I do have a Mini Gun and a lot of people wouldn’t recommend that for Clear Coating. It’s a 1mm nozzle and I’ve had some pretty good results with it.
I guess I’d suggest that the 1.4 is probably a better option and worth the wait for the shipping. I got some good advice from Robby when I was buying my Mini Gun. The bulk of what I wanted to paint was Helmets, maybe a motorcycle tank or two. I was deciding between 1.0 or 1.2. He said that the 1.2 would probably grow out a lot of material for something Helmet sized and the 1.0 would be the way to go. Having used that a few times, I might have even gotten away with 0.8.
The best I can offer is giving you an idea about what I paint and how my gun has worked for me as I don’t know how often you’d be painting or what kind of size.
I hope some of that ramble helps LOL.

Thank you! Could you recommend a good spray gun with 1.3-1.4mm? I just checked the datasheet and that what they recommending to use.
After a little thinking I'll save the 1.8mm for primers[IMG]

It depends of your compressor. Some guns need more air then others. For example , if I am not mistaken Siroxx has a tank of 45 liters on his and he uses mini gun on that compressor. Well, his mini gun it's not regular gun. It's like God of mini guns lol

SiRoxx can tell you if this would work with regular size gun :D
Well, he can tell you how much he pushes his compressor while he uses mini gun.

I think you also get info on guns how much air they need? Did you check it?

190l/min works out around 6.7 CFM, which is pretty much the same as mine. That might not be enough for the 1.8 Gun. Do you know the CFM Requirements for the Gun?
I can recommend the ANI that Husky posted, that’s the one I have, it has fairly low air requirements approx 3 CFM and is a very capable Mini for the price. The trouble with a smaller powered compressor is that cheap guns tend to use lots of air and the compressor isn’t enough.
