after painting the gargoyle I seem to have come down with a creative block and I just cant come up with anything I would want to paint :( I have been going trough all my ref photo's twice and no photo "speaks" to me
I cleaned my airbrushes hoping to come up with something but nope still drawing a blank

Its funny and frustrating how we can have a pile of references but there is nothing there that 'speaks'. I can sit down all enthusiastic and motivated only to walk away an hour later with no idea what to paint. sometimes inspiration comes at the oddest times, you'll be be doing something and you'll see something that triggers 'I can paint that' ! It cant be forced and if I start painting something just for something to do it never flows well and i'm never happy with the end result.
I'm still working on my Gargoyle... I had a few things pop up that meant I couldnt get to my brush.

I do go through bouts of creative blocks every now and then. For a while now, I have been keeping a journal where I jot down inspirations as they come to me. And inspirations come at weird times, so I have a journal in my phone too. So, I will just refer to my journals when I need inspiration...

I bought a book on airbrushing from eBay, it turned out to be quite an old text and has a whole chapter devoted to technical type cutaway drawings, my Dad used to be a technical illustrator and although he never used an airbrush he tells me they used to be used frequently for that sort of thing. I guess before the days of SolidWorks and the like.

Something like that would be cool, the book has a fiendishly complicated example of a cutaway oil rig complete with realistic sea etc. I might try something like that at some point - maybe a little simpler.

I think I will just forget airbrushing for as long as it takes to break down this block as I noticed I it only gets worse as I start looking for something to paint

I do that too. I’ve gotten in the habit of looking at pictures, Illustrations, comic art and custom paint on Pinterest just to relax. The bonus is there’s a lot of stuff on there I’d like to tackle one day. So the images are copied into my reference folder even though I’m not intending to look for anything specific.

I try to paint every day I too have alot of refernces but often times They do not inspire me. On day where I have no idea what to paint ( and have no motivation to paint also ) I just start misting paint down on the paper randomly and very lightly. As shapes start to form I can start to see an image show up. when I can clearly see the image I build on it from that point. ... I may be differnt then alot of folks though . to me its airbrushing thats important not the image that I create

I spend my day getting the bike into spring shape and did not think about painting all day and I can feel my mind clearing up so I know I am on the right path and I am sure I will get my creative spirit back

Just paint. "Creative block" is something that ws created by people that did not want to do what needed to be done. Don't paint what tiu want to paint. Paint what you have to paint. Practice hair. Do eyes or lips. Just paint.

I can't come up with a subject to paint, so I turned to a Walter Foster book from the 90s and did a few of the exercises in there. The wood in the book stupid so I did that one from YouTube. It is a single A4 that I quartered.
