Creos ps771 vs Sotar 2020

*this is an additional post connected to my original from yesterday *

I have been thinking about pulling the trigger on the Croes ps 771 but then saw some reviews of the Sotar 2020 stating that the Sotar was originally developed as a direct competitor of the Iwata Micron in the 90’s… does the Sotar behave like the Micron or 771?

If I can get the same details with the Sotar that would be great because it’s 75 dollars less and I can spend the extra money on Createx Illustration paint ….

Im painting small maquette busts with lots of details in the sculpture so control and trigger response is important

Thanks for the input!🙏

I was going to suggest the SOTAR on the other thread. I love mine. I haven't tried a Krome but that's why I asked because the SOTAR and the Krome are similar. The SOTAR is shorter, lighter and overall slightly smaller, but performance should be similar.

Thanks,
Ismael

If you like your Krome, you will like the Sotar. About the only difference between them is the front portion of the body, or shell. The rest of the parts, head, nozzle, needle profiles, springs, etc are common between them. My only gripe with them is that there has been a pretty broad range of tolerances found in their production run(s). I've got a few OLD ones that I adore. Now, the Krome and Sotar use the same needle packing, so the trigger draw can be considered the same between them.

I should also add- you ask how they compare with the PS771. They really don't compare in any way. Across the board the PS771 is a higher quality piece. This does not mean that there are not people that get similar results from the two brushes, or even prefer the Sotar over the PS771 - but, the fact remains the 771 is a superior quality build.

Thanks for your response! Yes I think I will stick with getting the PS771….i was hoping there would be a less expensive option (Sotar 2020) but I think there’s just no getting around the fact that if I want to do precision work I need precision tools lol i have no trouble getting fine lines out of my Eclipse , but I think compared to the PS771 it’s unreliable/ tricky getting it to spray super fine dots and contouring every time , all the time

Well like Dave said, It's not that you can't get precision results from the Sotar, but the build quality is not equal. I can get some insane detail from my $25 Harbor Freight Avanti, but it's not built solid like my Infinity. Rob at the Dred FX channel on YT has a full comparison of the two brushes at

Rob prefers the sotar over many brushes including the ps771

yeah, what Rob prefers seems to change with each new brush he uses. Brushes, like many things, are a personal preference thing. You are happy with the Sotar, so be it.
I have noticed that too and tend to just tune out when watching his vids now 😂
