Well last couple of days been having problems with my new TC-20-T compressor. After sitting all night, wouldn't start. Flipped the switch and all I got was a low humming noise from the motor? After turning on and off for six times, it started. Seemed to be ok then it filled the air tank, shut off, and wouldn't start after the psi dropped. Again with the humming? WTF!!! Then I noticed after shut down, with a full air tank, the psi would drop to zero after about 15 minutes. Checked all connections/fittings three times (used teflon tape on all fittings), I cant find the leak? Enough is enough...Called Amazon to start the replacement process. Waiting for RMA and shipping info from them. Although it was sold and shipped by TCP Global, I have to go through Amazon (where I made purchase). Unfortunately, I think I'm going to get stuck with the return shipping cost

Amazon should take car of you. TCP products have a rep for being hit or miss on quality.

Sounds like your motor jamming somehow. Give it a tap with a bit of batten where motor sits. Might just last till you get it replaced!

EDIT! By batten, i dont mean them big bloody bats... I mean a 2 x 2 bit of wood!

Yup, motor saying-Get ******* Could be anything, bearings, piston etc and yer if it doesn't work threaten it with a hammer, if it still refuses....get a bigger hammer. That fixes my computer everytime, hit it with a hammer hard enough and it won't annoy you ever again.

I wouldn't be impressed personally and would return it with a nice message..But hope you get it sorted..Are you in a situation where noise matters? If not I'd go down to the local hardware and get myself a cheap 25 liter shop compressor, they only cost about $60-70 and you can build a silencing box for them, much better alternative than a silent compressor, only use them if you need portability or live in an apartment styled building..GL

sounds very similar to the problem i had on mine. Kept humming instead of starting up. then would sometimes start but was very laboured and slow. other times it ran fine. I put it down to the pressure valve but never got round to replacing it to check. I never had the pressure dropping (over a short period) once it had filled though.
if i AB'ed with it it would not start once the pressure dropped either. Not very old and was under warranty but i like to mess so had it to bits - oops - n warranty LOL

i would suggest just getting it swapped out if you can.

Bat HELL!! I'm going to take it outside and put a 9mm in it...LOL. I understand TCP is pretty good with customer service, we will see. Amazon is monitoring all correspondence with TCP, so that should help push the process through. In the mean time I can still get some practice in with it. Oh well...Shi* Happens!!

Oh it cld just be the electrical contacts, sometimes they sit around for awhile in some warehouses shelf/shipping containers and it doesnt do em well, perhaps open up the control unit and see if there is any corrosion or basic visible issue where the juice goes through..have a big hammer or 9mm there just in case. LOL

I don't know if that motor has a starting capasitor to help it start up but if it did that might be the prob?

I'll give Amazon/TCP a few more days to resolve the issue. Like mentioned a bad relay or switch? I was thinking the piston/linkage...If the piston is stopping in a position that is "locking up." this could cause the motor to hum because it's trying to start and is jammed. The last communication from them yesterday was "A technician is looking into the problem." Duhh...It ain't right, replace it! I don't want to mess around and open it up. Then they can say I voided the warranty. My next correspondence with them will be a bit stronger. I am really trying to be civil, but I have little patience when I get a "song and dance."

TCP sucks for air compressors.BUT, they replaced mine, no questions asked. But, I purchased it directly from them. Very well might have over heated, and killed itself. At least thats what mine did. And, it has the same infectious disease as yours

Yeah...Got an email this am from TCP. They are sending me a new compressor. They didn't say to send the bad one back first. I'm thinking I will have to though. Hopefully they will send a "pre-paid" return label. Unfortunately quality control seems to be lacking with products manufactured overseas. They put them together, maybe they test them and out the door they go. At least the Paasche AB is working good. I believe they are made in the U.S.A.

Got it last night. actually does what its supposed to do. Filled the tank last night, shut it off and there were no loss of air this morning! So far so good. Back to practice. Now I can pick up some good paint.
