Drawing Deconstruction

How do you go about deconstructing an image, where do you start etc?

it all depends on the image but in general all images are no more than shapes and shades
I always start with the out lines ( the shapes) and I go as detailed as I want or need
once I have all the outlines I start looking for the different colors or gray scales ( the shades) and trace those in again as detailed as I want or need
